Racism is the systematic oppression of other groups of people. Throughout history this has meant slavery and people being denied their basic human rights. It's a lot deeper than having a horrible opinion of someone. You keep subscribing to the idea that you can be racist and still egalitarian.

So, if someone has a racist attitude but does not act on it, then that person is just prejudiced but technically not a racist? Racism is an institution rather than an ideology? I should've paid more attention in sociology.

And to answer the OP, I could not support anyone who supports racism or belongs to a racist organization. However innocent comments or occasional stereotypes I can sometimes tolerate (like Macklemore dressing like a Jew, Imagine Dragons depicting Mexicans as rooster fight obsessed people, Iggy Azalea's twitter comments regarding Mexican women, etc.).

I don't know tbh... I mean I like some old music by some people that were famous during nazi Germany... Like they probably were nazi sympatisers yet they are talented and I like their music, but I don't know... If my fave says yes I am a racist or that keeps repeating I would probablly burn my collection and just stan for someone else... as long as they are denying it, or they are not hurting anyone I would be mostly ok... but if they would be like recorded like certain person, I would definitley leave that ship...

Why are you quoting me, I actually agree with this. I was a psychology and sociology double major. It's these other girls in here talking about racism is just an opinion and using the term ad hominem to disprove articles written and published by professors

I'm sorry - but wtf? Atleast Chris Brown has shown some remorse for beating Rihanna. His fans can claim he moved on from that.

Stanning for someone who is racist is not the same as co-signing every single thing they SAY or DO. Being racist is the person THEY ARE. So you're basically admiring and supporting someone who thinks a certain race is worthless. Totally different than not co-signing with what they do. Their whole personality, their whole being is about being racist. That isn't stanworthy, in my opinion.

No, Tennis Court was not using the term to do that, rather just pointing out that you were in fact doing it.

It's actually all of your posts which refuse to address the central point of the thread.

The point is, people have a right to their beliefs (whether they be moral or immoral). As a 'stan' or 'fan' of someone's music, however, you can easily dissassociate yourself from these beliefs because we are largely supporting an artist's music rather than their opinions, which are potentially irrelevant.

This conversation is pointless anyway. If she was racist she never would have become successful. Racists don't succeed. It's too politically incorrect in this day and age. And if she exhibited racism after achieving her success, there would be nothing left to stan for. Her career would be over. Racism ruins careers. Look at Paula Dean and Mel Gibson.
