I want my Maleficent evil and manical and having a ball, not being a bag of emotions cuz of a guy.
And peaking at the ending of the novelization made me nearly throw the book across a Target, it was that horribad.

That's why Charlize Theron's Ravenna from "Snow White and the Huntsman" and why Glenn Close's Cruella de Vil from "101 Dalmations" were so well-received by critics (Glenn Close was even nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as the maniacal Cruella de Vil). Because the writers for these villainous characters weren't desperately trying to overly-humanize them. Female-driven films, penned by women, like "Maleficent," are always trying to "find the human" in these kind of grandiose female characters, and always, ALWAYS involve a man as being the catalyst to the way these majestic female characters come to be. It's frustrating. And then people wonder why there's not many big budget female-lead films to choose from. It's because they have a habit of being mind-numbingly clichéd.

"Alice in Wonderland" was very profitable, but received mixed reviews. But in the Forbes article in the OP, it explains that the reason why "Alice" did so well was because Tim Burton is a brand on all his own, and it was his pull, along with a Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, that made "Alice in Wonderland" financially successful. Notice how "Oz: The Great and Powerful" didn't do nearly as well.

y'all haven't even seen the movie yet, calm down. for all we know, the reason Maleficent is evil is because of something much more personal than "ooh a boy broke my heart". this has been a debate going on since the rumors started, that people didn't want another case of being burned by loved as the reason a bad bitch's heart hardened. it's completely possible to have valid reasons for being evil yet still have the audience understand that by no means does that make them good.
i use Regina from Once Upon A Time as an example (a lame one, but it's fair). Regina felt betrayed and hurt by what Snow White did, and it's a justified anger but it still doesn't excuse what she does as the Evil Queen. this might be the case with Maleficent. her reasons are valid, but they don't excuse the evil she's done. it's not an impossible thing to do. it's very hard to humanize a person but still reiterate they're evil, but it's not impossible.

I LOVED Changeling. Such a good drama film.
OT - I'm still gonna watch it, it's just one of thise films you know is overhyped as f**k but you still HAVE to see it. The marketing and public relations team behind this movie is genious, the hype they built around this movie alone will be enough to outgross its budget, so kudos to that Disney.

Still willing to take a chance on it, tbh. Critics are so often bought that it's really brought my trust of them down.

Too many interesting movies out to be wasting money on Maleficent, anyway.
I might download it when it's available, though.
