Actually, "Asian American" does apply to South Asians like Zayn Malik (if he were an American).

The US government categorizes all Asians under the term except for West Asians (Middle Eastern people). It's just average Americans who don't realize that Asia is a lot more than East Asia and think all Asians are Mongoloid type of people.
