As I said before, I don't really plan on supporting the Sochi Olympics. I'll watch the hockey gold medal game (if Canada makes it) otherwise I'm just gonna let out my daily "Go Canada." and than go about my days and wait for Rio.

I will support them fully.

For most of these athletes this is the whole ballgame.

They work their whole lives for this. They usually only get a couple shots. They are not going to get rich or particularly famous even if they win. They do it because they love their sport and want to represent their country. This is their 15 minutes.

Probably also why I don't care for the pro team sports. Spoiled rich athletes who care less about the games than they do the regular season of their home teams.

Chan is definitely the favorite, but after failing to win the Grand Prix Final I think the door is open for others to make a run at it.

I think there has been some blow back from the years of "Chanflation" when he would win no matter how many times he fell. He only wins if he skates clean imo.

I would like to see Jeremy Abbot medal. He had an awesome nationals, and it would be a great way to end his career after all those flops at worlds/the Olympics.

I don't even want to think about that.

I am just going to hope they go smoothly, and if there is an incident that it is fairly minor.

With the Russian military laser focused on Sochi I THINK they will be fine, and if there is an attack it will more likely occur in another area of the country.

I'm so excited for these Olympics.

Not watching or "supporting" the games is just hurting the athletes, not Russia, so that's pretty useless.

I'm hoping Jason Brown can sneak onto the podium somewhere, but I don't think he has the difficulty to do that. And I really hope Yuna Kim wins gold again.

Jason has great musicality, but isn't really a medal contender without a quad.

I am worried about the USA this time. We did VERY well in Vancouver since it was the echo of 2002 and the infrastructure we set up with that. However, with Lindsey Vonn out and the Alpine team down this time + a sharp decline in our speed skating I see our total dropping by 10 medals or so.

Julia is having a tough season as well

Mancuso hasn't done anything special on the world cup in a long time. She tends to wake up closer to the Olympics, so who knows. A wildcard for sure.

IMO, USA's next big alpine star is Mikaela Shiffrin (SL and GS skier). She's still fairly new to the big leagues but her record in the past two years has been very impressive. Marlies Schild, considered one of the best slalom specialists ever is currently at 2 wins for the season while Shiffrin has won 3 out of the 5 races so far. I'm not sure how she'll do with the pressure of her first Olympics, but the speed is there.

Pics of the concept and construction of Sochi Olympic plaza. I don't think safety will be a big concern with all the events in one place. The place will be locked down tight. Plus it is probably pretty nice to have all the events so close to one another if you are a visitor.

Finally a hit thread for the Olympics! When I made this for Vancouver it was paid dust
