Let Her Go, Pompeii, Do What U Want
Anybody else feel like the chorus of Let Her Go is very similar to Red? Maybe just me...

Do What U Want out so early?
I loved Let Her Go even if I didn't include it cause it wasn't eligible and Pompeii was my fave song of the year for a moment last Spring

"Do What U Want" is not DWUW without R. Kelly. R. Kelly's part actually sold me on the song. Well, that and the beat. That god damn beat.
And yes, "High Hopes", "Burn", and "POMPEII". "High Hopes" has a really good chance of charting high for me in 2014.

 | 40. The Phoenix
Put on your war paint
"The Phoenix" is the epic opening track of Fall Out Boy's most recent album, Save Rock & Roll. | | 39. Wrecking Ball
I will always want you.
So I love Miley, but the BANGERZ era is not my style. "Wrecking Ball" is a powerful ballad, but I don't think that it's especially well-written. That Miley was able to turn this into her first #1 single is impressive, although that was accomplished through the video rather than the song itself. | | 38. Still Into You
I should be over all the butterflies
Paramore's beloved hit "Still Into You" is a happy and lighthearted love song with a remarkably memorable chorus. | | 37. Clarity
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity
Zedd's breakout hit "Clarity" features up-and-coming pop star Foxes, and the two make quite a pair. "Clarity" has always been the standout track from Zedd's album of the same name, and it was exciting to see the track smash. More importantly, the song also introduced me (and many others) to Foxes. | | 36. 22
Who's Taylor Swift anyways? Ew.
As generic and formulaic as "22" is, I still enjoy it from time to time. This ode to being a young adult celebrates a "girls' night" but still finds Taylor falling in love with strangers. The song's shining moment comes during the second verse, where Taylor Swift mocks hipsters who mock Her... which is hilarious because She is practically a hipster Herself. | | 35. Atlas
I'll carry your world
"Atlas" is Coldplay's lead single from the Catching Fire soundtrack. It's not the type of song that you immediately fall in love with, but it certainly grows on you. "Atlas" has been nominated for a Grammy and a Golden Globe. It will lose both. | | 34. Trouble
Save your innocence for the next life
"Trouble" is the title-track of Natalia Kills's sophomore album. Despite being one of the album's weakest offerings, there is still an anthemic quality to the song. In a just world, "Trouble" would finally put Natalia on the radio, but the world is not fair. | | 33. One More Sleep
(tie) Underneath The Tree
Three more dreams of you and mistletoe
Another holiday alone to celebrate
A tie? A tie! The Queen of X Factor and the Queen of American Idol both released Christmas albums in time for this year's holiday season. Both albums came complete with original singles: "One More Sleep" and "Underneath The Tree." Both of these songs follow the traditional Christmas narrative of wishing for love, and the songs are equally festive and enjoyable. | | 32. Where Are We Now?
As long as there's me, as long as there's you
"Where Are We Now?" marked the return of rock legend David Bowie. The contemplative track was his first release in over a decade. | | 31. If I Lose Myself
If I lose myself tonight, it'll be by your side
"If I Lose Myself" is my favorite single taken from OneRepublic's Native, so it was sad to see it flop while "Counting Stars" smashed. |
 | 30. Next To Me
You won't find him tryna chase the devil for money, fame, for power, out of greed
"Next To Me" was shaping up to be a huge smash in mid-2013, but it didn't quite make it there. Nonetheless, the song was inescapable for a few weeks, which is not problematic because it's so damn good. | | 29. All American Boy
I'm gonna wrestle you outta them clothes, leave that beautiful body exposed
Steve Grand went viral with "All American Boy" because he was a hot gay guy singing a rock song marketed as a country song. "All American Boy" details a stereotypical gay-boy-crushes-on-straight-guy narrative, but it was refreshing to see a gay singer directly singing about a gay relationship, rather than using gender neutral pronouns and the like. Fun fact: Steve Grand was once an underwear model, and he has covered Lady Gaga's "You & I." | | 28. Are We All We Are
Four, that's how many years it took to me to get through the lesson that I had to do it all on my own
"Are We All We Are" is the latest single taken from The Truth About Love and it's probably Pink's best underdog anthem released in this decade. | | 27. The Next Day
Here I am, not quite dying
"The Next Day" is the title track of Bowie's most recent album. The song sparked controversy for its negative portrayal of Christianity. Note the lyric "They can work with Satan while they dress like the saints." This controversy went further following the music video, which features Gary Oldman and Marion Cotillard. | | 26. Hard Out Here
Always trust the injustice cause it's not going away
Lily Allen has had enough of your misogynistic BS, and she's here to let you know it. In the music video, she specifically calls out Robin Thicke's disgusting "Blurred Lines." Praise Lily Allen. | | 25. Problem
Don't you wanna claim my body like a vandal?
"Problem" was the lead single from Trouble, and it finds Natalia painting herself as a bad girl over a thumping production. | | 24. Loving You Is Easy
Finding you was so hard, but loving you is easy
Union J's third single, "Loving You Is Easy" is as repetitive as The Wanted's "Glad You Came." It is also nearly as good. | | 23. Team
We live in cities you'll never see onscreen
Lorde's impending second mainstream smash is arguably as good as or better than "Royals." | | 22. Young & Beautiful
Will you still love me when I've got nothing but my aching soul?
Lana Del Rey's Great Gatsby track is amongst her best work. | | 21. Somebody Loves You
Somebody misses you when you're away
Betty Who's "Somebody Loves You" is an undeniable pop masterpiece. |

Omg what an update! let me go in.
The Pheonix is great, not a huge fan of Fallout Boy but the song is cool. Wrecking ball is cute. I loved it at first but grew tired of it, still a good song though. Paramore I haven't heard from yet! but everyone seems to like this song so I'm excited.
Clarity used to seem like a boring generic mess, but it grew on me like crazy and it's not a bad song. YES at you showing 22 some love, all the undeserved hate it gets when it's really a handcrafted perfect pop song. Atlas is beautiful, I heard it as the credits rolled when I left Catching Fire, I kind of like it more than S&S
Skipping a few, I love Are we All we Are, it's probably the best P!nk song in years, happy to see that too. Lastly I praise you for including Team. A million times better than Royals for sure.
The only song that I do not like are the two Christmas ones, but I'm biased since I tend not to like holiday-themed songs. Also that All American Boy song is lame. Nice to see someone breaking barriers in country but eh..
Overall amazing set!

11/20 - Agreed that IILM is miles better than Counting Stars. Clarity, Still Into You, and Next to Me are my other favorites from this set.
