Discussion: All 226 Clichés Uttered by Katy Perry on Her New Album

I can admit Katy uses cliches but there's nothing wrong with that because Katy has simply never tried to be pretentious and pass off relatively empty pop music as anything more.
And ya'll trying to clock Katy, why don't you look at your fave's own lyrics first?
The WPs I would get if I posted just a song.

Katy's entire image and sound is based around mass-consumption. Of course it's easier to digest (226) something (s) you've heard before than metaphorical/vague lyrics that require a bit more depth.
And there's nothing wrong with it--Katy, Luke, and Bonnie clearly know what they are aiming for.

But Gaga has done it too.
- Just Dance
- Poker Face
- Starstruck
- Born This Way
- Judas
- Applause
- Do What U Want
And these are just a few.

Exactly. And not just Gaga either. Every major's pop girl's hits are all cliches. That's why they become hits. When was the last time a song that wasn't accessible (ie written with cliches) topped the charts? Royals seems to be the only exception I can really think of.

I never said it was a bad thing Why are you naming songs by Lady Gaga?
This thread is about 226 cliches used by Katy Perry in her new album. Someone mentioned that it was lots of monsters in here saying it, but I was simply saying I would say they were cliches even if it was Gaga. A cliche is a cliche.

But I don't get why you ran in here shading when Gaga herself does it. It's just a huge contradiction and hypocrisy at its finest.
I did not bring up Gaga before you did, so don't act like I'm pulling it out of the blue.

This is actually a really clever article. It gets at what keeps her a fairly generic and ultimately uninteresting pop star much more than criticisms of Dr. Luke's production ever do.

What the **** is your problem? When was I shading? I mean I commented that there were a lot, but how is contradicting? I even said it wasn't a bad thing. Please read my comments and point out to me where I was shading. I was simply saying that almost all of them actually are cliches. This has nothing to do with Lady Gaga. If this were Gaga's album with the same lyrics, I would be agreeing that there are a **** ton of cliches.
So, point out to me where I was shading anyone or being a hypocrite if you'd like, but if you read my comments objectively, I think you'll see that I was discussing the merits of a list of cliches actually being real cliches.

This is blatant shade, don't even try it.
And you only backtracked your statement after you got clocked on what cliches really were. Then I only brought up Gaga after you did, once again, after you shaded Katy using so many "cliches" when Gaga's discography is littered with them.
You can exit the thread now.

I was just commenting that there were a lot. Cliches are good in music, a decent amount makes them more relatable etc.
The reason I said that I would say they were cliches even if it were gaga was because of this comment
Quote:
The monsters running in here should learn the difference between common verbs/nouns and cliches.

So, get super pressed that I supposedly shaded Katy if you want, that's not my problem. At any rate, I'm glad almost everyone else agrees that these are cliches, from buzfeed, to twitter, to facebook... not because they hate Katy, but because they are actually cliches! Yay objectivity!
I wonder why Katy stans are mysteriously saying they aren't cliches.
Have a great night! I'm losing brain cells being in this thread.

The Monsters and Gaga are not one entity, no matter what you want to think. Besides, it was not "every" fanbase that said they were cliches, it was almost entirely the Monsters, as usual.
Now I'll just spray the bug spray so you don't come back.

I looked through the list, most are SUCH a reach; they really tried it

These are such reaches. This album literally bops from beginning to end, which I can only really say about a few albums, so other artists can keep trying.
