Slow Down has been 'climbing' the charts for months, it is not going to smash and it isn't going to move any more albums. I was calling her a brand because that is all she is, a face that people stick to a product and hope it sells, her music is devoid of personality, her acting is fine but nothing special and if she doesn't get herself a distinct sound, look and vibe she is going to disappear within the next 5 years. She does okay but not fantastically, people who keep up with music know her but she is not a household name, the thing she is known for most outside of ATRL and her fandom is for dating Justin Bieber and that fame is fading fast.
Stars Dance is cute and shows potential but it got old fast and went stale on the charts fast too, I hope she can pull something together because I think she could do really well in American at least, she isn't a natural born performer, musician, artist or actress though, she is going to have to work harder than some of her contemporaries. She would probably benefit a lot from some high profile duets.

Look, I'm not saying this because I'm a "try-hard hater" - I love some of her music and I literally stan for WTSGD.
But the thing is, Selena lacks artistic expression; she's a name and an image ONLY, we all know she lacks vocals and charisma, what is there left in a singer?
She has some cute dancing skills but that really doesn't cover up for anything! HWR is using her name and image to sell those rapid singles and albums & after this 4-contract deal, she's thrown away waiting for another label to pick her image up.
Stars Dance IS stale and sounds very similar to some 2010/2011 pop albums like Femme Fatale, it's selling decently (not like her previous albums though) because she's getting radio airplay, promo, has her own name out there, etc...

I'm just saying that just because you got a bad rating in a project it doesn't mean you shoud give up if it is truly your passion. Her other movies ratings: Spring Breakers = 66%, Monte Carlo=38%, Ramona and Beezus= 70%.
The problem with her acting is that she doesn't take a time in order to prepare for a role. She just get at the set and tell her lines because she is always busy. I agree she need more focus, take classes, if it is really what she wants to do for life. But I feel she doesn't know yet, she's just following a course that she is being driven. She is young maybe if in two years she did not get anywhere then I'll start worrying. For now I'm fine with her steps.

She's much better at low notes than high notes though.
She has charisma.
If she leaves HWR that's the best thing for her, she can go to a powerful label.
It will sell more let's let the era finish. She will sell a lot. The things she's getting are great for an artist. I'm not blinded by being a stan. I always thought she had charisma even when I wasn't a stan. An image and name is important for every artist. But ok

Giving me one performance that isn't even that good doesn't really veil her extremely weak vocalization which is sniped by us AND music critics.
Plus, you missed out my whole point; it only takes her label some $$$ and ass-working to hook her up with widespread producers who can create rapid hits for her, then they'd foreseeably use her name & image to obtain huge profits. Period.

Sorry to the Nicki Minaj fan, she isn't a household name in any household that has children above the age of 14 at the time she entered the Disney world. And that's all I feel the need to say as I've openly been a Selena fan for years, my opinion may make me unpopular but it is still mine and I shall be sticking by it. I agree that will hur her in the short run. But all she has to do is come up with a great performance in some indie movie and everyone will forget Getaway. Whether or not she is able to give us this performance we have to wait and see. Unless you can see her future into some crystal ball
