Review: Paramore dishes out the musical mediocrity
Vocalist Hayley Williams and her crew certainly have a die-hard fan base, yet this San Jose show underscored many of the reasons why Paramore is having a difficult time building upon its core group of followers.
The group's harmless, unremarkable and derivative music works fine on the radio -- dished out in single servings, sandwiched between, say, Train and Maroon 5. Yet, less is more when it comes to Paramore. The 21-song set the band delivered on Friday translated to one long, monotonous and repetitive evening of musical mediocrity.
Paramore simply has no signature sound. It has found success by making music that is similar, but inferior, to other top pop acts. It got to the point in San Jose that I found myself hoping that the band would play more tunes that sounded like bad Taylor Swift because those songs were so much better than the ones that sounded like bad No Doubt or Avril Lavigne.
Williams, 24, slings her vocals onstage with the same degree of professionalism that she does in the studio. Watching her perform, it's easy to understand why so many predicted she would have left Paramore for a solo career by now. (If that ever happens, let's just hope that she hires different people to write her songs.)
bassist Jeremy Davis and guitarist Taylor York -- come across as nothing more than faceless sidemen onstage,
Unfortunately, the band never bothered to shift out of neutral. Songs such as "That's What You Get," "Daydreaming" and "When It Rains" came and went, without really taking us anywhere.

Ouch... It sounds like he didn't want to go to the concert in the first place, so I don't think Paramore could've done anything to change his mind.

What? How can you claim Paramore's epic discography is lame. Plus it was supposed to be a review about the performance, and their performance skills >>>>>>>

It's lame to come for Paramore with this new album because this is seriously the best one yet. By far.

You're going off on the Self-Titled Tour, which is the first time in a while that you're headlining these big arenas in the United States. How does big playing the big rooms differ from playing in front of, say, 3,000 people?
We're so excited. A little bit nervous, too. It's been three years since we've done a proper tour in the States. Just the fact that our booking agent and our management felt like we could do an arena tour this year got us so fired up and so excited. We've been putting together a bigger production than we've done before, and a longer setlist than we've done. It feels real. And that's so crazy, because when we were in the studio, nothing felt real. It sort of felt like we were waiting for a piano to drop from the sky! It's crazy that the arena tour is happening. We're ready to show the band that we can be.
Does this tour change what you're hoping the band can become?
The biggest thing for us was writing this record. I thought that we grew a lot over the last three records, but when we started to record this one, it felt different. We would listen back to the demos and just be like "That's Paramore? That's so bizarre! That's wild." It made us really excited. We had to get there and release it out into the air, into the world. That was a huge thing for us, and it surprised us, and I think doing this arena tour is the next step. We can bring [Paramore] to life. It's going to be a good way for us to find exactly what we want to be, and who we are.

Review from Manchester:
Frontwoman Hayley Williams proves why she’s built such a loyal following over the years as a punk goddess. Her vocals are exceptional live; a definite improvement from earlier gigs when her vocals could at times prove quite shaky.
The guitar skills of both Taylor York and Jeremy Davis were also on full display as they individually played awesome riffs; getting their share of the limelight and showing Hayley isn't the only talent in the band.
Their performance of Now was almost note for note identical to the record and was a definite high point of the show.
Hayley shows an innate ability to make you feel the lyrics of her songs, especially during the performance of When It Rains; the depth and tone of her voice were piercing.
Ain’t It Fun, another highlight, provided a first-rate vocal, as did That’s What You Get, Misery Business, Decode and Monster, where, despite head-banging and vigorous dancing which riled up the already wild crowd, her voice never seemed to waver.

Manchester Review: In paradise with Paramore
Her energy and charisma create a charged atmosphere with the entire arena singing every lyric back to her.
Williams shows off her talents on keyboards with superb renditions of When it Rains and the beautiful Let It Happen.
Paramore have the perfect mix of energy, stage presence and the love of their fans. It’s quite simply the best arena rock show I've ever seen.

Cardiff Review:
Their sound effortlessly fills the stadium, making ‘Grow Up’ a brilliantly inspired first song – Paramore have well and truly grown-up and they sound all the better for it.
Next, the band descend a golden-oldie on the crowd with 2007′s ‘That’s What You Get’ – much to their delight.
The set list continues to be an array of perfect picks – effortlessly blending the old with the new. Despite the band’s latest album only coming out a matter of months ago, every song is a classic according to this crowd, as they belt out each word with all their might. ‘Last Hope’ is a particular highlight, as Hayley’s notable emotions during the performance make even the hardest of hearts collapse into sympathy.
As everyone sings, sways, shouts and sweats, the performance solidifies Paramore as one of the best live bands in recent years. It seems the now three piece are exactly where they want to be and they sound better and more confident than ever before.

Nottingham Review:
From the opener, Grow Up, singer Hayley Williams and co. showed that indeed they did, with a powerful, energetic and entertaining set that engaged the packed crowd at the Capital FM Arena.
For each song they spoke to the thousands of fans and were rewarded with a singalong on every chorus.

Yes exactly!! It was on her Instagram that I saw the pic of Hayley in the pink Hard Rock Cafe tshirt for the first time. Lindsey is amazing she takes the best pics, the fact that she is so close with many of the bands she works with (Paramore, T&S, fun.) makes her pictures so special.
Well, I have to admit I'm not a Paramore stan, but I love a good portion of their discography so I just had to go see them when they came near me and I did not regret it. It was a very long and satisfying set, they played lots of songs from the new album but also lots of classics so it was something for everyone The performance was great, very energetic, there was a lot of dancing/jumping/moving around on Hayley's part and she still managed to deliver flawless vocals, I was so impressed She was very interactive with the crowd as well, talking to us a lot and making people sing along and jump, and for Ain't It Fun, she invited about ten fans on stage who then sung the song with her and acted as the choir, it was the coolest thing ever

I hope she comes along on Parahoy and takes pics of everything
It was, definitely a very fun night It just felt great to hear all those songs that I've loved for a long time live (I was really into Riot! a few years ago).
Haha if you say so, that's an honor I do like them a lot. They're a fun band and I like how they have evolved over the years.
