Priyanka does not have a "huge fan base" anywhere except South Asia. The tiny South Asian diaspora in the US and UK are way too cheap to buy music legally on iTunes. Why do you think In My City sold only 5,000 copies on iTunes and Jay Sean is always flopping? You cannot count on Asians to spend their disposable income to buy music or movies.
As for Exotic sounding like "freshy trying to force herself into the western music industry," that's exactly what's going on with Anjula Acharia-Bath and Jimmy Iovine trying to launch a South Asian international pop star, but Priyanka pulled it off. Her accent sounds good and although the song isn't amazing , it sounds like a RedOne dance production that Jennifer Lopez or Havana Brown would release and definitely not kiddy bubble gum like watching a Hindi movie.
Also, I don't get how you're complaining about the lyrics if you're a Jay Sean stan; these lyrics are no more juvenile than Down, Do You Remember, Hit the Lights, 2012, Break Ya Back, Like This Like That, Bebe Bonita and I'm All Yours. All of those songs sound like they were written by some kid in high school and even Mars' lyrics are hardly impressive (and don't even try it with the BMI songwriting award win, even Pitbull won one lol).
not really in the mood to argue, its not like am a priyanka hater, loved her since 7 years back as a model and actress. but the truth is if someone played this in there car the public would DIE laughing. much like i and my sisters did after hearing her 2 singles. i dont know why you have introduced jay sean in the topic, however his pop songs do have the repetitive simple vocab, poppy sound and feel but they DONT SOUND RETARDEDDD like this hahahaha. evident of dj's at nightclubs, radio stations, tv stations playing his **** well after its left the charts. whats happening here is she clearly has no song writing, lyrical or musical talent, she can sing but i have never heard her live with out studio auto tune, but due to her large fanbase and popularity, the record label is just throwing money and contacts at her, like gagas manager, red one (one of the most overrated producers) and high profile collabs. trying to manufacturer a Indian female Jlo or something either way her material is still soooooo wack and if they were clever should have came to the UK where Burban (brown urban} was invented. we have the flyest and dopest brown underground rappers and singers who dont sound like there from the indian disney branch. hahaha
"in my city, everybody welcome here" teletubies much "you got a friend in me" toystory
much. sorry but really cmon man. whos writing these
and its sad out of all the oldschool amazing hindi tracks she went for the shittest one, if she wants to go the hindi sampling route please go to brown producers the same way Eminem gos to black producers.
bottomline if someone was to sing this at school or listen to it, its so wack you would probably get laughed at and humiliated.i have no probs with whom ever likes this song, just not my cup of tea, i just personally think it sounds like a fresh of the boat trying to be western cool, not via her accent but the lyrics and music.

I never said you were a Priyanka hater (and I wouldn't care anyway), but I like being fair and objective. I brought up Jay Sean because you stan for him so your criticism doesn't even make sense when most of Jay's songs post-My Own Way have even worse lyrics. Yes, the lyrics are In My City are laughable, but the ones in Exotic are your typical RedOne dance lyrics like in On the Floor, Live It Up and Dance Again, which are actually played on mainstream radio, in clubs and on TV unlike Jay's songs. And if you think it's embarrassing to play Exotic, how are you okay with playing Down or I'm All Yours?
She definitely has no songwriting ability, but that's irrelevant because she didn't write the song. And she can't well sing either; she's an average singer like Rihanna or Britney who needs studio magic to sound good. Anjula Acharia-Bath basically recruited Priyanka to become the first person to be launched on the label she created with Interscope to promote South Asian artists internationally. Is that why you're so bitter about this? Because British Asian artists are being ignored for an actress who can't even sing well? Anjula tried promoting them with Desi Hits!, but they have even less western appeal than Priyanka does. Anjula was the #1 supporter for Jay Sean, but he only managed to get one big hit and flopped after that. Imagine if she tried with less mainstream British Asian artists like Raxstar? It's a failure waiting to happen. You have to start with more commercially appealing people and then use them as a platform for everyone else.
I don't like the sample either, but most Hindi music is trash with some exceptions (some old ones) and producers like Bappi Lahiri and Pritam are shameless plagiarizers so going to Indian producers is useless. The Chura Liya He sample in Stolen was nice because Rishi Rich worked with Stargate to make it sound good. I would have preferred her to work British Asian pop producers like Alan Sampson, J2, Wayne Wilkins or even Rishi Rich, but Interscope stuck her with RedOne because they thought it would be a guaranteed hit. She even worked with Orange Factory Music, but I don't like what they're doing with Jay so not expecting much from their tracks with her.
Why would anyone sing this in school or outside? It's a song with simple lyrics to dance to like On the Floor. And I'm sorry, but this is less embarrassing to listen to in public than Hit the Lights. Just take Exotic for it is—an empty summer dance song (that will probably flop because people are over this fad).
the beat does slay.. with the right promo this song can smash.. but no smash hard enough since music has taken a turn yet again for classical, uptempo pop and rnb.. just look at Billboard
There are still dance songs charting on Billboard, but even with promo and even if RedOne dance songs were still popular, Exotic is definitely not going to smash. The best that we can hope for is that it charts like the Wonder Girls did with Nobody back in 2009.
People just aren't receptive to Indians (Asians in general) except for some Indians themselves and maybe other South Asians. I think a very Hindu name like Priyanka Chopra is already a huge deterrent for a lot of people to take interest in her and the fact the music is dated and generic isn't helping. "Minorities" have to work harder and be the best to be noticed. Someone like Beyoncé is musically talented, is a good enough dancer, has a relatively western name, is good-looking with a more ambiguous "whiter" look and has a lot of support from black Americans so it's difficult to undermine her. It's so easy to undermine Priyanka or just ignore her.

Tbh, I'd be willing to bet a lung that this will not just flop, but be nonexistent in the US, and probably everywhere else too.
Probably, except for India (and Sri Lanka too since In My City is still placing high on iTunes there).
The release date has been pushed back to July 9th. VEVO premiere, iTunes release and I'm assuming radio premiere (if anyone actually adds it) on the same day.

Priyanka Chopra Makes Music Magic With Pitbull, RedOne on ‘Exotic’
By: Kathleen Perricone
What happens when Mr. Worldwide joins forces with Miss World?
We get “Exotic,” the brand new single from Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, which is set to drop on July 9.
And not only does the beauty — who won the Miss World crown in 2000 before becoming a successful actress — have Pitbull on the hot track, she also enlisted the help of mega-producer RedOne, the man responsible for some of Lady Gaga‘s biggest hits.
Priyanka and Pitbull recently filmed a music video for the high-energy dance track in — where else? — his hometown of Miami.
“The song is called ‘Exotic’ so I wanted to keep it just that,” she recently told The Wall Street Journal as for why they shot in South Beach. “It’s very dance-heavy, and in India, that’s what we do in all of our movies, so it definitely has an Indian flavor to it.”
“Exotic” is just the beginning for Priyanka, who is preparing to release more new music through Interscope Records later this summer.
What do you think of “Exotic”? Looking forward to hearing the rest of her album?
Listened to it yesterday .. It sounds like I imagined, and the indian part will make the song be big in India (I hope) .. But something still bothers me .. Her voice is so different in this

It'll do fine in India with or without the Hindi part. In My City sold over 200,000 copies there with bad reviews.
