When I heard the EP, I was really impressed. The drifting and underwater concepts really shine through in the songs. I love this song because it's mellow but still makes me feel like I'm lost at sea and about to sink to the bottom of the ocean floor. I also love Hospice and I'll definitely be looking foward to any future music The Antlers put out.
I realize many of my favorite songs this past year haven't been the happiest of tracks but I think it reflects my overall mood and life during 2012.
I enjoyed Bloom, even though it had a bad replay value to it. Anyway, "Myth" always stuck out to me. Some people might get bored listening to it all the way through but it really is a beautiful experience. I sounds like the end (or beginning) to a long journey.
8. Grimes - "Oblivion"
Wow. Amazing production, innovative, gorgeous. I don't really LOVE anything else on the record as much as this track but that's alright.
kin was one of my favorite records from last year. Electronic music for me can be very hit or miss but kin was definitely a hit. "goods" and "play" have always been my favorite tracks from the album because they're not as cold as some of Jonna's usual stuff. I love the beat and little love story on "goods" more though:
Toned down but playful,
You say your greetings with goodbyes,
Your cup is brim full,
Sorrow sinking with a smile
6. Jessie Ware - "Wildest Moments"
Ugh, just stunning. The hook gets stuck in my head a lot and I have to sing it to myself. Devotion, again, one of my favorite albums from last year.
I really fell in love with her last year. I remember someone said that her music sounds like an amazing anxiety attack and that really stuck with me. The Idler Wheel... is probably my favorite album from last year. I also love really great cover art and that album had some amazing art.
I know most people's favorite from the album isn't "Every Single Night" but I had to choose it. The emotion she emotes POURS into the music. I just love it.
4. St. Vincent - "Krokodil"
Yes, yes, yes! I am in love with this woman. Oh my god, the title comes from a deadly addictive Russian drug and that's what the song sounds like. It sounds like some furious drug addict trying to find love. "I need your bite, kroko dil dil dil dil".
If her next album is like this I don't know what I'll have to do with myself. She MUST continue to go down this direction. Keep in mind that Strange Mercy is one of my favorite albums ever. She can easily top it though!
We all know the EP is amazing. This is so innovative and fun to listen to. The mixtape didn't live up to the EP but that's fine. I'm really hoping for something as great as this on Broke With Expensive Taste.
2. Tennis - "Origins"
It took me a bit longer to get into this than most of the songs on the list, but once I did, I was blown away. Her vocals are so sweet and the lyrics are truly poetic. And yet, the song can totally break your heart. It's also got that lovely nostalgic feel to it. The album can get boring at times but at least it has this. Hopefully Tennis can come up with something as amazing as "Origins" for their next release.
The beat is relatively simple and yet it's still so amazing. The overall song can be relaxing, but it's still sort of sad at the same time. I love her concept about how people don't use their imagination as much as they should when they grow older; it's really a shame.
The album isn't even close to her debut but "Disparate Youth" is still a spectacular song.
I genuinely recognize and love tons of songs in here. Amazing Top 10!
"Myth" is just stunning and the song makes you explores things about yourself you've wouldn't otherwise without the song's melancholic yet hopeful stance.
Awesome #1, it's the only song on the album that really caused an impression in me. I couldn't get enough of that riff.
And YEAH! at "Crest", "Sweater Weather", "Doused", "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards", "Nuclear Seasons", "Oblivion", "I Love It" and "Krokodil"! Those were not just songs; they were moments.
your #1
a really good list overall, even though I have not managed to listen to every song yet. but I love your taste so hopefully I'll discover some more cool stuff.
So many good songs in the top 40! Chained, Laura, Sleeping Ute, Pyramids, Sidewalk Safari, Push and Shove, Bad Girls, Myth, Oblivion, goods, Wildest Moments, Every Single Night, Krokodil, 1991.
