Nicki's formula needs to consist of the following: substance + hot beats + catchy choruses + a powerful delivery = smash
she can do that for any genre and succeed urban and pop but she's already mastered the art of commercial music so that's not a problem we just need her to focus on the execution of her urban and substance music. Roman holiday and come on a cone were instant album gems that should not ever meet radio and as for the boys, ....she would've got someone else to do the chorus and made it a little more catchier through different means (bridge chorus) but they could've scrapped that ...i didn't think it was 1rst single song ...could've just been on the album and left alone

Couldn't of said it better myself! You always know the tea.

I agree she needs everything of those 4 elements to smash and it seems like lately there's always one or the other missing. That's why I hope she takes time before the next album, I feel like Pink Friday had so much time put into it and tbh, I feel like the Re-Up is more just the first 7 new songs she got done rather than 7 out of a bunch that were the most quality. I do hope to be impressed though by at least 1 or 2 songs tho.

She will have pop songs on the album, but it won't be Starships/PTA type songs. She'll have a Super Bass/VVV type song on there. And about 2 Marilyn Monroe type songs. The rest will be hip-hop. And we need to stop living in the past. It'll only affect our future in a bad way.

Well, I'm not hating on the fact that she's planning. She definitely is a very hard working woman and that is to be commended.

I guess my point moreso is I want her to take her time and actually record a ton of songs and then pick the strongest ones that are surefire Urban smashes. I know she's capable but I feel like if she rushes, it's not gon' happen.
I think it's way easier to record a hot pop song if you have the right writers/producers. Rap songs are much harder, especially if you're doing it mostly on your own. Like I said Freedom was a step up but it still is like only in the 7-7.5 range for me. I do hope another song like Up in Flame, I Endorse These Strippers, or I'm Legit from the EP impress me though and can do SOMETHING on radio, so the EP at least leads one step in the right direction.
