And I've ALWAYS hated the 2-3-2 format in the Finals... It's not really "HCA" for the Thunder if the next 3 ****ing games are in Miami.

That's a good point, but I actually like it. Rarely does the home team for those 3 middle games actually win all three, especially when the teams are as competitive as these two. I really doubt Miami will win all three. I'm guessing OKC will be able to win one in Miami and then come back to OKC with two games at home.
With the 2-2-1-1-1 format, I could definitely see Miami winning in 6 games with Game 6 at home for them. If the series goes to 6 or 7, it's definitely an advantage having those last two potential games at home. Just my opinion though.

I don't know... I've always like the 2-2-1-1-1 format because gives the HCA team a clear advantage. The 2-3-2 format puts a lot more pressure on the HCA team to win the first two games and be able to win on the road as opposed to vice versa.

A 2-2-1-1-1 format would be bad due to traveling purposes, no?

Hell they do it the first 3 rounds... Why change it?
edit: because it's western vs eastern?

I thought you brought up some good counterarguments so I did some googled and viola, people are arguing about it right now: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/view...9f266f0b2840ff
A pretty interesting fact that was brought up and which I confirmed at http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/0...he-next-champ/ is:
Quote:
Miami has been here before, but the Thunder have home-court advantage, hosting Games 1, 2, 6 and 7. The team with home-court advantage has won 20 of the 27 Finals since the league switched to the 2-3-2 format in 1985. And only twice in the 27 years has the other team won three straight games on its home floor.
|
Still, in either format, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages. Right now, Miami has the pressure of winning three straight games at home, but the Thunder (assuming they steal one in Miami) have the pressure of having to play from behind in the series and go down 2-3, having to win their final two games.

Yes. I was just about to type this before you edited it.
Teams in the same conference are competing against each other in the first three rounds. In the last round, the top teams in the west and east are competing against each other, so the format is different.

Because the NBA Finals get such high ratings (compared to the early rounds of the playoffs) and the fact that those early rounds have already dragged the playoffs on forever, I'd imagine having games every other day (as they're able to do when you have consecutive games in one place) is definitely more ideal. Traveling and waiting an extra day between those games when switching arenas drags the whole thing out even further. It may be easier logistically as well for the arenas. But these are just my thoughts; I'm not really sure.

David Stern is such a little **** for his response to Jim Rome's question about the lottery being fixed. Now a ton of people think Jim Rome beats his wife (I laughed, though ).
You would NEVER see Roger Goodell answer a question like that.

Right?
I mean, if we REALLY want to get technical about the refs, Durant shouldn't have even had the opportunity to take that last shot, considering that awful blocking foul call on Battier should've been a charge on Durant (which would've been his 6th). But I'm not one to blame the refs when my team loses so...

It was 50/50 and those calls usually favor the home team Oh well, the Thunder will steal a couple in Miami and close it out at home.

Hmmm I don't know. I expect OKC to win one, but I think HCA is a much bigger deal for them than Miami. The OKC crowd is INSANE, and I think that helps them out a lot. Even Tim Duncan said that the crowd there rattled him, and he's a 15 year championship winning vet.
If Miami doesn't go at least 2-1, though, I don't see them pulling it out. Though obviously my dream scenario would be the home game sweep...

So I actually don't like the NBA at all. I love College Basketball and basically every other sport but the NBA just bores me. BUT I despise Lebron so I figured I would watch just to see him lose. Little did I know that the teams would play one of the sloppiest games I've ever seen in the first half. I almost fell asleep I was so bored.
I know the Heat fans won't like this, but I really think it's in the NBA's best interest for the Heat to lose again this year. Everyone hates them and is watching to see them lose. When they win it will take a lot of the fun out of the NBA. It's like in MLB and everyone roots against the Yanks. It's more interesting to have a team to hate. Miami will get a title eventually so in the NBA's interest they should be pulling for OKC to win this year, leading to the Heat winning next year.

I'm mad. Thunder played pretty bad. And I can't even blame Westbrook for this one because he was nowhere to be found.

It works fine for the Stanley Cup finals though.
