The comeback single! Okay, so this wasn't the comeback single that most people had in mind for Shania, I think. It's super laid-back, which is different for Shania. It's good that Shania found the confidence to come back to singing and she wrote this song completely by herself. The song only peaked at #66 on the Hot 100, and was #36 on the country chart. I think this song strengthened everyone's fears that Shania might not be able to make really good music without Mutt.
This song lost a tiebreaker with #33 because it didn't have any 10s!
Shania's always been a generic (in the best sense) writer - she reveals little to no part of herself in her lyrics, resting on generalizations and platitudes to get her point across.
Maybe because I watched her show on OWN, but TiYD felt like one of the only times you heard Eileen.
I remember this song as an a cappella recording that only featured the intro. It was a random song placed onto the end of The Woman in Me album. Shania rarely covers social issues in her songs, so it's interesting to hear her discuss poverty & child suffering. This was Shania's first #1 on the Canadian pop chart, and it was her only one until "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" The song only went to #75 on the US pop chart and #48 on the country chart.
The last song for the night is the newest song to Shania's catalog. Shania's voice sounds really good in this song. I don't really have much to say about this? The video is really sweet and Shania looks fabulous. So far, the song has peaked at #18 on the US AC chart!
Well, her last two releases weren't the most country-ish songs. They were both very adult contemporary. But you're probably right. I wonder what her first week numbers would look like if she released another album.
Endless Love is doing decently on Adult Contemporary; #19 and still climbing.
I've actually heard Any Man of Mine on country radio a few times this year.
If she's smart about it, she'll go for moderate success there instead of trying and failing on country.
