I agree that something seems a bit wrong about the new setup.
To some degree, I understand that you guys are trying to keep Music News strictly limited to news about music, but by doing things this way, you have essentially only changed the label of where you want everyone to post: that is, all of the same discussion that you might have been trying to get rid of will now be taking place in Base instead of Music News.
Due to the super-tight restrictions on the duration of album threads, I don't really see any point in going to them at all. Not only are they going to be difficult to moderate, but if you are successful in moderating them, they will likely be abandoned for the main Base thread for each artist. On top of that, most people will probably still rely on members re-posting upcoming information int he main artist base thread instead of going into the dedicated album thread. Even worse, won't this aggravate the issue of overcrowded threads--like the original Born This Way thread--that become so clunky that they slow down the site?
In addition, it makes the Base section a complete mess which is somehow managing to be filled with the same frivolous discussion as the old album threads (which I don't mind), the ludicrous flamebait polls AND news about artists that is probably closer to music news than it is to base material.
I don't necessarily think the Base section is a bad idea, but it seems like it should be limited to only one thread per artist that serves as the primary place of discussion for that artist. It shouldn't be filled with whatever else anyone feels like posting. That type of nonsense should either be put in The Lounge or another lounge-type section for artists. Already, it feels like the line between what it posted where is at best blurry and at worst irrelevant.

When they release singles in the US you can open threads for those. The album would only get a new thread if the US release (or different country) had a substantially different tracklist.
I shouldn't open a new thread, right?
