Helllloooo. Sorry for the break. Just wasn't into it these last few days. And the last thing I wanna do is fail to highlight these great albums.
9.
"Yuck" by Yuck
Not even does a debut album hit the top ten. Back in the day we had years where the Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, etc.. all came out in the same yearframe. Lately I feel like artists don't hit their stride until albums 2-4. Yuck breaks this trend by coming out with fisticuffs swinging. "Get Away" is so badass that the one song would have been enough for a high placing. Fortunately, the rest of the album is great too. They are from jolly old England, but sound like Third Eye Blind raging in a garage.
I give Benjammin 100% credit for this discovery. For me, I discover music either through word of mouth, last.fm, or liking the name of the band enough to check out their material (can see examples of this skittered throughout the list ... Werewolf Congress?) The latter two did not help me at all in this case. Step it up last.fm! You have almost eight years of listening history to go on!
The '10s have undoubtably brought about an '80s resurrection. So it is nice to see Yuck bring back one of the non depressing sounds of the '90s. I eagerly await their follow up album.
Two down, eight to go. Will YOUR favorite artist be next. Likely not.
Nice, O!! Great to see Yuck on the list! And, thanks for the shout-out! Funny enough, that album didn't end up making my Top 40 albums list. It's one of the handful of albums that was very difficult to leave off, as it really is as great as you say it is. I'm happy you gave them your props, at least. More people should listen to them.
If great stuff like Yuck isn't in the top eight, the eight must be pretty GREAT! I am sorry for that. It was just sitting there, taunting me.
lmao at you hating on last.fm; please tell me you check out their recommendations.
I so thought you'd be into this because of the name, you weirdo
but... thats what holds me from truly appreciating them, perhaps.
At least I clicked on the links!!!
Ok, so when you have a blurb that heralds the glory debut-days of Bloc Party, Kaisers, Arcade, etc - my attention is immediately grabbed. And now that you and Ben have both recommended this, I must check it out.
I can't decide what album to put next. Instead .. TV Comedies of the year. Including animation.
23. Entourage
-I can complain about Entourage all I want, but the fact is I watched it to the very end. I think I'll miss it a little too.
22. Tosh.0
-The idea for this show is awful. The execution by Daniel Tosh somehow makes it work.
21. NTSF: SD: SUV
-*puts on sunglasses*
20. Workaholics
-"His name is Cee-Lo Green!"
19. Family Guy
-I was off Family Guy for a long long time. Now, thanks in part to the sexy new expensive animation, it has once again become a watchable program.
18. Chuck
-After a great finish to season 4, Chuck found a way to completely jump the shark and ruin the entire show.
17. Bored To Death
-RIP. Damn you, CSI!
16. Childrens Hospita
-"Help a colored brother out"
15. 30 Rock
-Season 5, meh. No season 6 yet. So that is why 30 Rock is so low.
14. The Whitest Kids You Know
-They tried to do a season long story arc this year, and it failed. Still a great final season for the funniest sketch show on TV.
13. The Office
-I wouldn't say I prefer The Office without Michael ... but it has been nice. If it wasn't for the excellent season 7 I would say #8 has been the best since the early days.
12. Futurama
-Futurama is still back. It has shown signs of recession, but the show remains one of the most delightful to watch. The Zoidberg episode and the finale were vintage Futurama.
11. Parks and Recreation
-What's not to like?
10. Beavis and Butthead
-The comeback of the year!
9. Happy Endings
-Favorite new comedy of the year!
8. How I Met Your Mother
-I'll send season 6 back to the cook, but give me an extra helping of season 7.
7. Archer
-"WOOOOOOO!"
6. Curb Your Enthusiasm
-Buckner's redemption! I like the show better without Cheryl. Larry is free to be a monster and has no one to answer to.
5, Louie
-The dramatic moments in this show are the standouts somehow. Dane Cook and Afghanistan were thrilling moments.
4. Real Time With Bill Maher
-This year I became addicted to Bill Maher. Somebody buy me his new book.
3. Blue Mountain State
-Yes, this is a college football show on Spike. Why is it so great? Just watch.
2. South Park
-Had a rough patch earlier in the year until the brilliant "You're Getting Old" which teased major change in South Park. We got that change ... for one episode. However, it reignited the spark, Trey and Matt went on to produce some of their best episodes. And there have been a lot of good episodes to stand up with.
1. Community
-My favorite show that is currently facing cancellation. Please have mercy, NBC. Take a lesson from Arrested Development's still growing popularity.
Music update will come when I can figure out what #8 is.
Good news everyone. The Prophet hath returned to us and guided me to a decision on album #8. Here we go Broncos here we go.
#8:
"I'm With You" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
I love that bass line. Though Frusciante may be gone, Flea has stepped it up more than enough. Even without their lead guitarist, RHCP have proven they can survive. A stellar stretch in the 90s with Dave Navarro and now "I'm With You". Ever since "Californication" RHCP have been making these huge rock songs that they kind of left their funky side behind.
So much like Justice at #10, RHCP were met with waves of disapproval for their new sound. I get that. Just last year I dumped Linkin Park because they changed their sound and I didn't like it. Unlike with that occasion, RHCP were born with funk in their veins. They had Rick James in their veins you could say.
The RHCP will be inducted into the rock and roll Hall of Fame next year along with another artist in the top ten. And they are actually having the ceremony in Cleveland! Sorry Bono.
And then there were 7. If any more hiccups occur I'm sure The Prophet will save us yet again.
