Jay-Z & Kanye West’s "Watch The Throne" Is Essentially Finished
Engineer Young Guru says Watch The Throne just needs "little tweaks" and another solo from Jay may be coming soon
Longtime engineer for Jay-Z and DJ/producer Young Guru recently spoke to Vibe about the state of the highly anticipated Watch The Throne.
“Right now, I’m really trying to get Jay and Kanye to hurry up and finish this Watch The Throne album because the world needs to hear it," Young Guru said. “It just needs little tweaks and things like that. But the core of the album is finished.”
The album, which has had two tentative release dates come and go, will likely feature production from Kanye West, No I.D., Q-Tip and Pete Rock.
“Kanye takes what they do and adds on to it and I think that’s his genius," Young Guru added. "I say this all the time ‘Kanye records are never the same twice, while he’s making them because they always grow.’
Looking beyond this high profile collaboration, Young Guru thinks Jay is plotting his next album already.
"Jay’s a consummate thinker, so sometimes he’ll call and be like ‘yo what do you think about this.’ And he said this idea to me that I wish I could tell the world about. Some ideas are so simple and in-your-face, that they’re so incredibly smart," Guru continues. “So this next idea— when you hear this title — the world is going to say ‘why didn’t Jay think of that for the first album.’ The title and concept just fits in perfectly. It’s so simple, but yet so elegant at the same time. [Jay] can’t stop, it’s in his blood.”
Even though it wasn't a huge commercial smash, when it's all said and done, I'm 100% sure that "Power" will go down as one of Kanye's signature songs. It's used in like every movie promo and sports telecast.
Nothing to do with this new album, just a random thought.

Yes - the same thing happened with Can't Tell Me Nothing. Till this day it gets huge promo (most recently I remember it being the anthem in the Hangover movie with the Zach Galifianakis version lol). His music is undeniably timeless
Do you guys think Kanye will ever be everywhere again? Like interviews, performances, award shows, etc..His latest comments make it seem like he wont (he won't ever sit at an award show again), but I want him to so bad. I hope he doesn't become a recluse
A couple of months before MBDTF it was like that, remember GOOD Fridays, the Runaway movie, SNL + Ellen + the epic tweets, than a month prior to his album drop he stopped everything and now we're lucky to get a tweet every 2 weeks

I understand the media was a bitch though lol
Yep.... the media is very annoying. They exploit people's troubles like it's a game.
It doesn't really matter to me whether he chooses to become more of a recluse or not, whatever he feels is best for himself is fine.

Agreed. I just saw it on the Limitless TV Spot Today
Young Guru details Kanye, Jay-z lp, 'Watch The Throne'
Although it still does not have a release date, more details on Jay-Z and Kanye West's highly anticipated album, 'Watch The Throne,' are beginning to emerge.
Vibe.com spoke with longtime Jay-Z engineer Gimel "Young Guru" Keaton, who offered some new information about the album. The Delaware native revealed that the core of the LP is finished, with some tweaks needed to complete the project.
As for its producers, though the selection of songs has not been finalized, top-notch beatsmiths like Q-Tip, Pete Rock and No I.D. have all submitted tracks for consideration. According to Young Guru, Kanye, who will also craft beats for the disc, has been fiddling with the tracks that have been presented much like he did with those that made his 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' album.
"It's a mixture of people ... Kanye takes what they do and adds on to it and I think that's his genius," said the DJ/engineer/producer. "I say this all the time, 'Kanye records are never the same twice, while he's making them because they always grow.' They start with just a sample and some drums but by the time you hear it on the record it's a full fleshed out production. That's what he's always done."
Young Guru said there would be some surprise guests on the album, but he was unable to share them just yet. He did give a cryptic hint about a new project Jay-Z may have in the works.
"He said this idea to me -- I wish I could tell the world about," Guru said. "Some ideas are so simple and in-your-face, that they're incredibly smart. So this next idea, when you hear this title, the world is going to say, 'Why didn't Jay think of that for the first album,' because the title and concept just fits in perfectly. It's so simple, but yet so elegant at the same time. So yeah, [Jay-Z] can't stop, it's in his blood."
Kanye West may be one of the most sought after producers/artists to work with in the music biz, but at one point, he was just like any hungry up-and-comer, grinding trying to get placements for his beats.
A pair of old CDs recently hit the net, containing a slew of old Ye beats from around 2001, before he landed several tracks on Jay-Z's album The Blueprint, helping him make a name for himself as a producer. On the album, he produced tracks like "Takeover," "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)", and "Heart of the City (Ain't No Love."
“Last week I was stumbling through my garage, searching through old storage bins, when I came across some old beat CDs from my days as a signed Interscope rapper. I was shocked to find that two of them, both given to me in ‘01, had the name Kanye West on them. These two CDs, which I believe are the oldest Kanye beats ever released, now celebrate their 10 year anniversary.
