I still want the tangible files.

!
And if you break the subscription you end up with nothing even after spending all that money.

It's a service and you consumed it. If you stop that electricity, water, gas, phone/internet,... contract, you also walk away empty handed.

I never got iTunes. Streaming is the best way to find new music and if I like that music enough I'll buy the physical album, something I can hold and open up and touch with my fingertips, something that's mine.
iTunes is basically paying for what you can get for free anywhere else.

But so is streaming. Why pay 120 bucks a year for Spotify when it's free anyway? And not to mention, almost everything on Spotify is on YouTube which is 100% free. And I'm not talking about crappy low-res user uploaded songs, if you go into the "Topic" pages of each artist, all their discography minus Taylor Swift is there for you to listen to.
If I'm gonna pay for music, I want to OWN it. I can stream songs I'm unfamiliar with for free anyway, I literally don't understand the point of spending 10 bucks a month to essentially rent music but I'm the unpopular opinion I suppose

This. I just can't give up owning the music I pay for.

I think Glory is the only bit of music I bought this year. Joanne simply didn't inspire me enough.

This was kind of a reason why I made the thread. There's no point in using iTunes as a receipt anymore because it's comatose and not the popular form of music consumption

Streaming is so stupid in calculating a if a sing is a hit or not because people will listen to sings they don't even like whether its out of curiosity or because it just happens to come on during shuffle or w/e.
Sales may not be a perfect representation either, especially after illegal downloading became trendy, but it's still the best way since people are literally tossing their hard-work money on an album/song they like.
Streaming is cute but sales will always be way more impressive and indicative of an artists success.
Personally, if I were a singer I wouldn't allow any streaming service to use any of my songs.

I'm in complete agreement with you but that's just not how the industry works nowadays. I personally don't think streaming, especially free advertisement supported streaming, is a sustainable model. I predict in little as three years that Spotify's subscribers will start dropping. Just like how people realized that buying digital music is sort of pointless when you can just own a physical copy and rip it, people will realize 120 bucks a year on music is insane. There was a study that not even in the CD era did the average person spend 120 dollars a year on them... but it's like, if they drop the prices, the industry will lose revenue because at this point, they're completely dependent on the success of streaming services because that's what they pushed and that's what they forced down everyone's throat. I'm very interested to see what happens in the next coming years.

True.
I never bought $120 worth of CD's yearly in my entire life and I don't plan on starting now.
I can just stream those songs for free on YT, why would I spend $120 on songs I can listen to free elsewhere?
I buy music from artists I wanna support or if I really wanna own an album.
Idk, call me old-fashioned but I'll never succumb to support streaming especially with its inclusion in the BB 200 chart.
