I agree that Carly's music just feels more genuine and inspired. Her persona comes through in her music, and when I listen to a CRJ song I really feel good. Not that I don't love Katy's music--it just doesn't feel the same. Carly's music manages to feel both "big" and individualized, and the lyrics and themes are better in my opinion.

This is something i've been saying for a while now. Katy does whatever Carly's doing but so much better. Yes it's candy pop but Katy's is well polished and well diverse when you take a step back and look at it objectively. Carly just delivers the same kind of beat, the same kind of lyrics, the same kind of instruments. It's unfair and I honestly side-eye people who drag Katy but praise ANY of Carly's work.

It's just because Carly is such a flop that nobody feels threatened by her. Also because of the fact that her music is unsuccessful, people feel like it must not be as generic and see her as more "indie"

If the tables were turned and Carly was being played on the radio 24/7 and was ending careers like Katy did then ATRL would have a very different opinion of her and her music. As much as people will deny it, she'd be getting dragged for being generic, radio-friendly, "childish" etc.

OK but this is literally not even true. She's not Ariana or Rihanna, she doesn't finish one album, release it, and then start working on the next one right away. During PRISM she was in PRISM mode; she was touring PRISM right into the end of 2015. She's been on vacation. All in all she's probably spent 1-2 years maximum working on the record and she's already said she wants to take her time on this one. And you can't judge 'the stuff she does' before you've even heard it. She's not making TD 2.0 or PRISM 2.0.
