I appreciate he doesn't want to "ho" himself out just be popular....but name dropping in this way is just as pretentious as name dropping to get notoriety.
Honestly that's just plain dumb, sorry. I can see why maybe he feels he has too much "artistic integrity" for some of those artists, but even Frank Ocean who's music would fit his style perfectly? please.

I'd bet my life it was label A&R that reached out on behalf of most of those names. And, that doesn't mean that said artist wants to work with you. In Mariah's case, she's turned down quite a few folks the label lined up. So, it was stupid of him to name the artist unless they reached out personally
He won't last long with that attitude, talent or not.
