The platinum certifications are for albums that came out years ago. The amount of albums actually doing Platinum WITHIN this year will be minuscule compared to early 2000s.

Get logical and realize the music industry in 2000 isn't comparable to the industry in 2016 on sales.

Literally anyone else can grasp the simple fact.

You mean like how IFPI, Billboard, Official Charts Company, etc. OFFICIALLY use album equivalents?

Or like how Taiwan's G-Combo Chart is the ONLY chart WW that uses your market share methods?

Music executives disagree with you, mathematics disagrees with you, etc. You can cling to your personal attacks, but until you can prove your math flawlessly and state that 1989 surely would've sold 15M copies had it been released in 2000 (hint: you can't, but good luck with your hypothetical), then please stick to the industry-endorsed, mathematically sound methods of measuring album consumption like album equivalents.

Moreover, Mariah's Rainbow (her most "bubblegum" release) is still under the 10 million bar and the Spice Girls went from 25 million to 2 millions in 4 years while it took Britney 12 years (BOMT to FF) to be in the same position.
Britney is the only female survivor of the teen pop machine and the singers who were selling BIG in the late 90s/early 00s were AC/Pop, rock and alternative (Celine, Dido, Avril and Norah). She was an anomaly for her generation.

To compare the top albums of today.

Show us the times where they have compared albums from 2001 to 2015 and such in equivalents? RIAA, Billboard, IFPI, and everyone in the industry doesn't compare bigger eras from different times by sales / equivalents because everyone knows the industry has changed.

But continue to compare 1999 sales to 2014 sales so you can keep this mindset Britney is the biggest pop star in history while everyone else doesn't entertain it.
