OMG Hugo! I'm so happy that movie was really amazing, I loved it so much. And yas @ Viola Davis! I hope she wins, her performance in The Help was superb.
I can't believe even with the BP and BD nominations, the voters still managed to screw Jessica Chastain over by not nominating her for The Tree of Life. She was marvelous in The Help and I think she was the best in show, but there's no way Celia Foote will beat Minny. The Tree of Life is the film that could win her the much deserved statuette.

Also, what's up with the Original Song category only having 2 nominees??? Does anyone know how the Academy chooses how many nominees per category?? I used to think that it had something to do with the number of entries submitted, but it can't be right for Original Song this year... Any suggestions?

The voters rate the songs from 50 to 100 I think. Then the Academy makes an average and only the songs that got more than 85 points are eligible for a nomination.
Edit: I correct myself, this is the way they choose the nominees:

The 2012 Oscars Nominations has been finally announced a few hours ago. Madonna's W.E. has got a nomination for Costume Design. Arianne Phillips is nominated along with Lisy Christl, Mark Bridges, Sandy Powell and Michael O’Connor.
This is the second Oscar nomination for Arianne, who was previously nominated in the same category back in 2005 for her work on "Walk The Line".

The Oscars will air live on ABC on February 26.

Mary J. Blige got snubbed big time for original song! Can't believe they only nominated 2 songs for that category! They should have filled the 5 slots! Even a nomination is appreciated by most people!
'Masterpiece' did not qualify for Oscar contention because of its placement a minute-and-a-half deep in the final credits. Apparently AMPAS rules require an end-credits song to be "the first music cue" in those credits to qualify.
But 'W.E.' was nominated for "Best Costume Design".
Well, what. you. say!
And they said 'W.E.' wouldn't get a single nomination..
