The download size for me was only 968 MB
And it requires 4.6 GB free space to install.

What the OP is stating that in order to even START the download to install to you need to have at least 6GB free. If you don't have 6GB free to install it won't start the download.....
I thought that was pretty straight forward.

That must vary because every single person I've seen who have talked or posted about downloading said it was 5.7 - 6 GB needed
