basically, but they would never take that risk because dark skin isn't relatable to the GP at all !
I don't agree with that. I think a dark-skinned girl who is on Beyonce's level, or with Rihanna's star power could slay. They just need to be given the chance and the budget. Start by building them up in the black community, then they'll cross over later on.
No tbh, Rihanna and Beyonce have a beauty is out of this world. Pop is image based and these 2 look and sound exotic as ****!
A sad fact is that most of the people that consume pop music are whites around the world, I don't see them relating much with a very dark-skinned girl. But I can see a very dark skinned girl smashing the R&B scene big time. But POP is too superficial for this kind of events to happen.

Do you mean to say both girls have beauty that is relatable to a white audience ior praised by the black community?

I think POP is superficial and Beyonce and especially Rihanna have a very appealing image for all the races around the world. Image is 60% of the work in pop music let's be real.

Of course its just in most cases talent is overlooked by your aesthetic and how marketable you are. How many times have movies been about people of color to later be casted by a white actor with tons of makeup. True also even in black culture light skin is praised while dark skin is dragged, you barely even see dark skinned girls in videos. Beyonce, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj are all light - brown skinned women in mainstream that have close to European features, especially with the blonde hair. Nicki just recently started embracing her Trini roots by wearing her natural black hair and natural skin tone with minimal make up and lighting in her videos and photoshoots and how many times have Beyoncé been accused of skin bleaching ? Look at her worldwide ads like her recent Toyota commercial and loreal hair commercial, she looks like a white girl ...
