If Gaga fans should be grateful of Madonna then Madonna fans should be grateful of Marilyn, Kylie, Cher, Cyndi, Marlene, etc., but they all pretend they don't exist, so...
Yes, Madonna is Gagas biggest influence. It can be seen in a lot of Gagas work.
You don't pay attention to either of them much, do you? The biggest similarities they share are their skin and hair color. Gaga's been influenced by Roison (sic?), Cher, Grace, etc. more than Madonna.

So your answer is Gaga should be grateful to Madonna, right?
Yes, Madonna helped pioneer female pop music. But Madonna fans should be grateful to Gaga because the torch has been passed and Gaga's doing it justice.

If Gaga was a rock artist than I could see Bowie or Freddie Mercury getting the title. But Gaga is a female pop artist, going by the blueprint that Madonna so kindly laid right down for ha.

Except, not at all. The only similarities people ever point out are "OMG, SHE WORE THE SAME COLOR SHIRT. OMG THAT SOUND IN THAT SONG SOUNDS LIKE THAT SOUND IN THAT OTHER SONG." Madonna did not lay down any blueprint. That blueprint was laid down by the late Michael Jackson.

I think you need to have a seat for a moment sis, are you feeling dizzy? Madonna laid out her own blue print in her own right. Madonna and Micheal have two TOTALLY different careers.

Yeah, she really did gal. The merging of theater and pop/dance music, the provocative music videos, the manipulation of the media, etc...all right out of the Madonna's handbook.
