Russell could never make an opener that balanced new characters with a good plot.
Rose; living plastic that took over London, stopped with an "anti-plastic"
I mean I loved Rose and the humour but it's was a weak plot considering how awesome a lot of the plots were for Series 1.
New Earth was funny, but just a mess. I don't think I need to explain.
Smith and Jones has good suspense until you find the Doctor didn't have to really do anything, and they kidnapped a hospital into space to find an alien when really one alien killings few people was targeted, when there were much worse out there. It just felt anti-climatic.
And I loved Donna, but again Partners in crime was a tragic story compared to the rest. The enemy was fat?
Moffat at least doesn't sacrifice a good plot for character development.
Moffat could learn from RTD's Christmas episodes though.
