Keep the dream alive i guess.
Religion has too many followers to just disappear like that.

If you take the Bible literally, then every person is a terrible sinner, which is why many Christians don't take the Bible literally and try to take the good teachings out of it. We're not stupid, we can see how contradictory the Bible is.. I mean the first half shows God as angry and punishing, whereas the second half has God as loving and forgiving,

that's so messy. The "good" parts are lessons that good people can learn by simply living and experiencing. So what is actually the point?

I really really doubt that it'll take just 3 generations for it to die off seeing as there are like 2 billion Christians in the world. The article says that the study was mostly done in Britain, so I think it's likely that Christianity could become irrelevant in Britain by 2060
Christianity and other world religions will die off in a few thousand years, too bad none of us will be around to see it

According to the statistics, between 2001 and 2011, the number of people who followed Christianity fell by over 5.3 million people. To put that on a timescale, that’s about 10,000 individuals per week forsaking Christianity. Following up on those stats, Christianity will fall to nonexistence in England in the year 2067.

I highly doubt it.
As for all of the people who are glad about it, let me just say this. I know a lot of people are against the Christian faith because of Christian extremists who are strongly opposed to certain ideas that are strongly supported by society, and even accepted by it; for example, homosexuality. And I know that Christians can be viewed as hypocrites by society. But not all Christians are like that, and it's no different from any other religion. I hate it when people form opinions about religious groups based on encounters with certain members of them.
Regardless, though, I highly doubt Christianity is going to be "extinct" by 2067. How can you even make a prediction like that? To me, it just seems absurd, especially considering it's one of the predominant religions in the world and there are a lot of countries whose populations are predominantly Christian.

Someone cited the recent Pew study on the first or second page which is absolutely correct. Christianity, and organized religion in general, will not go away anytime soon.
Now that we've established that, how about we shift the conversation towards arguments for and against religion being good for the world?

Can you share your opinion about why you believe religion is a great thing? Many people have a good moral compass without being religious. I feel like you're defending Christianity just because you're "supposed" to.

There's no benefit to religion anymore. When the RCC held power over governments it was useful, but now it's just a massive cover for child abuse. What's the point? "Love your neighbor" is something you can realize by yourself without an imaginary friend.

What he's trying to express is that our lives don't have some greater meaning that religion can convey to us. There is no inherent purpose of life except from the evolutionary standpoint of keeping the species alive.

Its a personal belief of mine, religion has been the center of my life and basically my sanctuary amidst life's trials and crisis. Cant say the same for most I guess. But I respect their opinion..but to say it isnt needed, for my belief, I dont agree with.

Yeah it won't be extinct by any means but the amount of religious people is constantly declining (at least in Europe).

This terrible logic, is this assuming no one is born into Christianity until then and no one converts to it?

I believe that a true religion (it doesn't matter, which one) is one that is completely tolerant of differences. It accepts people's mistakes. There is no mention in the Bible after the new testament that being Gay was a sin. In fact, Jesus, was more tolerant than the Westboro Church is today. He would have accepted all people whether Gay, Black, White, Green, etc. But some of these extreme baptists actually believe that God throws lightning bolts to strike people dead when they make mistakes or are doing things that go against their deluded beliefs. God, in actuality respects those that are good to one another, no matter their differences, without causing fear. The problem with Westboro, ISIS, and other fanatic religions is that they try to create fear when a real God preaches tolerance, friendship, and love among all people - whether gay, twink, *** or not!. The only rules that matter in Christianity are the 10 commandments. If you don't kill, steal, etc and respect other people, then you should be fine.
