Darren Lemke, who worked on Shrek Forever After as well as Bryan Singer’s upcoming Jack the Giant Killer, has been tapped to pen the big-screen version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Walden Media picked up the rights to the educational computer game-turned-cartoon from Houghton Mifflin in the fall of 2011. Jennifer Lopez is one of the producers and eyeing it as a starring vehicle.
Also producing are Benny Medina and Simon Fields, Lopez’s partners at Nuyorican Productions as well as Underground’s Nick Osbourne, Trevor Engelson and Devin Andre.
The story of the geographically-inclined game centers on Carmen Sandiego, the greatest detective at the ACME agency. When she becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. But when their cat and mouse game leads to a bigger mystery that implicates the agency itself, the partner questions whether Carmen is a really a thief -- or a hero.
Walden svp development & production Evan Turner and Walden CEO Michael Bostick are overseeing the project, which Walden sees as being a cross between Thomas Crown Affair and National Treasure.
Walden is hoping to capitalize on the character’s popularity and multi-generational awareness. She was introduced in 1985 as an educational software tool, evolving into computer games and programs, winning 90 awards and now used as a teaching tool in elementary schools all over the country. The three Sandiego TV series have won a Peabody and an Emmy.
Lemke is one of the town’s go-to scribes for family films. In addition to the Giant Killer spec and Shrek, he worked on Turbo, DreamWorks Animation’s currently-in-production feature, and earlier this year tackled Goosebumps, based on the R.L. Stein books, for Columbia.
Jennifer Lopez has revealed her “Dance Again Tour” (#JLoDanceAgainTour ) dates from October 5 to November 22 on JenniferLopez.com. These dates extend Jennifer’s tour which kicked off in Panama City earlier this month and will hit North America with Enrique Iglesias and Wisin y Yandel in July, August, and September.
Jennifer played to rave reviews on the first leg of this tour, which has taken her throughout Central and South America. The media has praised her performances, exclaiming, “a hurricane of energy filled the stage” – El Universal; “Energy and passion overflowed in Venezuela” – El Siglo; “JLO gave her love” – El Nacional and “Jennifer Lopez Shook Caracas” – Noticiero.

Can you tell us a little bit about your characters in ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’?
Jennifer Lopez: I play Shira, who’s a Sabre-toothed tiger. She runs with a pirate crowd, they’re like a “gang” I guess, and she kind of belongs to that gang. She’s left her pack, she didn’t like the whole pack mentality and she decided to leave. She didn’t believe she belonged anywhere and then she got in with Captain Gutt’s group. With them she felt like she belonged somewhere for the first time, in a way. Gutt embraced her and made her his First Mate. Shira, she’s very smart and she becomes his right hand. And then they encounter Diego and the other ’Ice Age’ main characters, who’ve been separated from their families. They try to take them as their prisoners. Then the ‘Ice Age’ crew, they try to escape and it becomes a whole thing back and forth (laughs). To see if they’ll get away and get back to their families.
How about you Drake?
Drake: I play a Mammoth in the equation, and his name is Ethan. He’s a young, strapping, handsome jock. He’s really good at turtle football, he’s very “popular”. He catches the eye of Peaches in ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.’ I was really excited about my character. If I get an action figure out of this whole deal, I think I’m gonna attach it like a pendant on a chain, and get a jeweller to cover it in flawless VVS diamonds (laughs). I’ll wear it in my next video, that’ll be cool (laughs).
Jennifer, your character has an interesting arc with Diego in the story?
Jennifer Lopez: Yeah. I think Diego and Shira’s relationship is kind of funny, kind of that classic movie leading lady and leading man relationship where the girls kind of tough, and the guy, he kind of falls for her right away (laughs). But he’s always trying to show that he’s better than her, can one up her or whatever….but he really can’t (laughs). And I think, there comes a point in the story where Shira has to choose between going down the path with the pirates and Captain Gutt, or starting a life with Diego. Love, what do-ya-do (laughs)?
I can imagine the process of capturing your performance as Shira bringing a whole set of unique challenges to acting….?
Jennifer Lopez: Definitely. When you’re trying to transmit just through your voice, even though there’s going to be animation and visuals, I think as an actor you get really disappointed with how your voice sounds. Because you’re so used to using your face and your body to get a feeling across. When you’re doing this it’s really challenging. You have to do more than you would when you’re acting. Just to get the feeling of what you’re trying to do and what you’re trying to say and what you’re trying to make people feel, that has to come across with just using your voice.
Drake, even considering all of your experience in a recording studio, how was that process for you on ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’?
Drake: It’s interesting because I had a movie that I was working on that’s so super serious, which is about the financial world, and then I get to be this over the top Mammoth in ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’ (laughs). A lot of capturing these characters is going as far as you can. Because you realise that the audience is not gonna see your face, they’re not gonna see you look awkward and screaming if you have to do things which are a little over the top. All that people are gonna do is hear it, so that’s something to really digest when you first step into that studio, like, “OK, I’ve got to go above and beyond of what I think is normal and what I think is good. I’ve got to give it a little bit extra.” It was a cool learning experience.
What was it about Shira and this project that intrigued you?
Jennifer Lopez: I just love playing tough women characters in movies. It’s always great to have a role where she really has a big part in the story. This could be the beginning of a family for Diego and Shira. For Diego, it could be a whole shift in his character after a few movies. She’s a great character. She’s a strong female lead character, in a really poignant, sweet story about family. I was down!
Even though you’ve acted before, with ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’ it’s not you personally on the big screen. What do you think that experience will be like watching the film?
Drake: I will probably be the guy who’s at the theatre every night with the 3D glasses on with my friends – especially because I feel like it’s going to be so cool to see that I’m in it, but as you said, I’m not personally “in it”, I don’t have to look at myself and see bad moments or anything (laughs), I can just go and watch an animated character with my voice. I’ll be at the theatre a whole bunch of times when this is in theatres, in my free time. I’m excited.
Both swim to die on the shore. After announcing with fanfare gather, Wisin & Yandel withdrew their participation in the concert tour that would perform with Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias.
According to a press release, the Puerto Rican reggaeton duo took off in production, that would take several U.S. cities after irreconcilable problems with the logisticians.

The pair, which is preparing to launch its latest album, "The Leaders", next week, "was preparing to start on the tour will visit 20 cities across the U.S. and Canada this summer when his agent informed them the impossibility of producing a show like that are used to offer their audience, "detailed in the press release.
"We pledge to do everything possible to announce an upcoming U.S. tour in the very near future, since we are so eager to be there singing our fans, as they are to see us," said Wisin.

UPDATED: Twentieth Century Fox‘s Ice Age 4: Continental Drift doesn’t open in the U.S. until July 13th. But the 3D toon already earned $78M from its international opening weekend. It was playing on 9,505 screens in 34 markets where it was #1 everywhere.(It was #1 from previews alone in the UK where it doesn’t officially open until July 13th.) ”An absolutely extraordinary opening weekend,” a Fox exec gushed. Highlights included: industry’s biggest opening weekend ever in Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Central America, and Chile; industry’s biggest animated opening weekend ever in Norway, Sweden, Ecuador and Bolivia; biggest Fox opening weekend ever in Mexico and Brazil. This coming week, 14 new markets (19 countries) open, including Germany and Holland, followed by an additional 16 markets (29 countries) day & date with the U.S., including UK and Russia. South Korea and India release on July 26th and 27th respectively, then Italy on September 28th.
Fox is quick to note that this release has fewer than half the screens and markets of the day & date release of Ice Age 3 back in July 2009. And an even smaller percentage (less than 50%) of international market share releasing this weekend. So overall comparisons to the opening weekend of Ice Age 3 will be made on a territory by territory basis. In addition, this late June opening weekend puts many of days outside of summer school holidays in France, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc. Results include:
Mexico: On Thursday it opened #1 in the market with 71% of share for the 2nd highest opening day ever for Fox (behind IA3 which opened on a holiday Friday). Cume to date is $13.7M from 2,516 screens. This is Fox’s biggest opening weekend ever, and the industry’s 3rd highest opening ever. Pic had 72% market share.
France: On Wednesday it opened #1 in the market. Best opening day of 2012 and 2nd best animated opening day ever after Ice Age 3. Cume to date is $11.8M from 1,072 screens. Debut had 3D about 55% of the total. This was the biggest industry opening weekend of 2012, better than Avengers.
Brazil: Cume to date $6.8M from 1,010 screens for #1 and Fox’s biggest opening weekend ever.
Australia: On Thursday, it opened #1 in the market with cume to date of $2.3M including Queensland previews. This weekend school holidays are in 90% of the Australian market. Cume to date $6.4M from 580 screens for #1 and 83% of Ice Age 3, which opened during nationwide school holidays.
Argentina: On Thursday, it opened #1 in the market with 62% share for the biggest opening day for a Fox film on a non-holiday. Cume to date $4.0M from 284 screens for #1 and the industry’s biggest opening weekend ever for 61% market share.
Spain: #1 with cume to date of $4.0M from 829 screens and 45% market share. “Excellent start in spite of Euro Cup Final today, which is greatly affecting Sunday business,” a Fox exec notes.
Colombia: On Thursday, it scored Fox’s biggest paid previews for 1st place in the market. Cume to date is $3.2M from 296 screens for #1 and the industry’s biggest opening weekend ever.
Peru: On Thursday it opened #1 in the market with 84% share for the biggest opening day ever for Fox, and the 2nd highest opening day ever industry wide (behind Transformers 3 which opened on a holiday), and the biggest opening day ever for an animated film. Cume to date is $3.0M from 252 screens for #1 and the industry’s biggest opening weekend ever.
Central America: Ice Age 4 made $186K on Thursday and was #1 ever for a family title; #1 opening day of all time in Nicaragua; #1 Thursday ever in Guatemala; #1 in all markets with over 70% market share. Cume to date is $2.1M for #1 from 252 screens and industry’s biggest opening weekend ever.
Chile: On Thursday, it opened #1 in the market with 71% share. Cume to date is $2.0M for #1 from 135 screens and the industry’s biggest opening weekend ever.

PREVIOUS: Twentieth Century Fox’s Ice Age 4: Continental Drift earned $11M from Wednesday and Thursday openings among only 12 of the 37 international markets releasing this weekend with #1 openings. Highlights included biggest industry animated opening day of all-time in Sweden and Peru; 2nd highest industry animated opening day of all-time in France, Colombia, Argentina and Chile; and Fox’s biggest animated opening day ever in Central America. Overall, it’s opening on about 8,500 screens, including 4,200 3D screens, this weekend. Fox won’t release full numbers until Sunday. But this foreign release includes 5 of the Top 12 markets like Australia, Brazil, France, Mexico and Spain.
Another 14 markets (19 countries) open next week, including Germany and Holland, followed by another 16 markets (35 countries) day & date with the U.S. release, including the UK and Russia. After that, 4 markets will release in late July including Korea, followed by Italy in late September.

FORTALEZA, Brazil – Jennifer Lopez, boyfriend Casper Smart and kids Max and Emme attracted curious onlookers on a Brazilian beach Saturday, reported online media. The star and her family – accompanied by an entourage that included burly body guards – spent the day at Mucuripe beach in Fortaleza.

Jennifer Lopez is in Fortaleza for the second performance of her début Brazilian Tour. JLo will sing and dance tonight at the Art Music Festival in front of 27,000 fans. Ivete Sangalo and bands Dexterz and Arsenic will also appear. JLo performed in São Paulo last week, drawing mixed reviews from the 15,000 attendees at the Pop Music Festival.
After leaving the beach, the group made their way on foot to a sidewalk café on the Avenida Beira Mar. Without too much fanfare, Jennifer and family took a table overlooking the sea where they savored regional foods.

According to host Marciano Fernandes, Jennifer asked to sample all the seafood dishes including the traditional crab drumsticks. She also tried the bean soup and pork chops stuffed with potatoes. The singer and her group spent 40 minutes at the restaurant and rang up a tab of R$853.38 reals (about $425 dollars).
The American star’s simplicity impressed businesswoman Carol Nascimento and daughter Clarisse, big JLo fans, who were in the restaurant. “She is super simple. He played with the children. Her boyfriend did not stop playing with the kids. She even said she wanted the same dish that she saw the waiter bringing me,” she told Gabriela Alves, reporting for G1.
Carol said that she was among the very first to buy tickets to see the international pop star at the music festival. Mother and daughter will attend tonight’s performance together.
Jennifer Lopez left the café with her daughter Emme in her arms, passing through throngs of fans waiting at the entrance, but she did not stop for photos. From the restaurant, she returned to her hotel with boyfriend and children.

The singeractress banked a fortune from her 18 perfumes released in the last 10 years, easily outselling her nearest rivals Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna.

June 30, 2012 1:47 PM ETEnrique Iglesias co-wrote Jennifer Lopez's current single, "Dance Again," and now the two longtime friends are taking the next step in a musical collaboration. They will be co-headlining a tour that kicks off July 14th in Montreal and wraps up September 2nd in Orlando.
"Jennifer and I have known each other for quite some years, we both spoke about it, and we thought it was a good idea," Iglesias said of the pairing during a conference call with reporters. "The ones that made the decision were Jennifer and myself because we are the ones that are gonna be on stage."
Package tours have become increasingly common in recent years for reasons that range from economic to artistic, but Iglesias admitted that he was a reluctant convert to the idea. "If you would have asked me five years ago about co-headlines, I would have said, 'Oh, man, I don’t know,'" he told Rolling Stone during the call. "And the reason why I started getting into co-headlines is because I, myself, started doing it at one point. I never really believed in it until I experienced it myself."
One thing that changed his mind about co-headlining a tour was seeing the crowd response. "I realized that a lot of these fans, they’re not your fans and vice versa, and that actually works in a positive way when the show is good, because the fans leave with a completely different perspective," he said. "And hopefully, by the end of the show, Jennifer’s fans will be my fans, and my fans will be Jennifer’s fans."
He also understands the business value. "We know that economically, [in] the U.S. and around the world, it’s not the best of times," he said. "So fans do get to see two acts for the price of one, which is also a great thing."
For Lopez, who toured with ex-husband Marc Anthony, among others, being a veteran of these kinds of bills means she knows the enthusiasm it generates among the audience. "It really is a gift for the fans to be able to see a few different artists they like, or to be exposed to a new artist," she said. "We have put together something that’s gonna be really exciting for the fans, and that’s what kind of motivated me to be part of it. This is a ticket where people would be like 'Wow, I loved it.'"
The two said in the call that they plan to perform together on the tour, something that should be a lot of fun if they bring to the stage the same playfulness they exhibited at times during the interview. When the question was brought up as to who would close the shows, it generated a show of modesty. "I think that Enrique should close," Lopez said. "I’ll go first [and] I’ll be home in time to put the babies to bed."
"I’m a fan of Jennifer’s. She’s an unbelievable performer. So I’ll be watching," he said. "I was even thinking at some point maybe I should just watch from the audience."
But Lopez insisted that Iglesias should finish off the night. "All those screaming girls for you, you have to close," she said.
Continuing in the footsteps of other Summer 2012 movies like The Avengers, Battleship and Prometheus, Ice Age: Continental Drift and The Amazing Spider-Man each opened in a handful of major markets this weekend ahead of their domestic debuts.
Ice Age 4 led the way with $80.3 million, and took first place in all 34 of its markets. Its biggest territories were Mexico with $13.94 million (third all-time), France with $12.5 million (first place for the year), and Brazil with $6.88 million (best ever for a Fox movie). More impressively, though, it set new opening weekend records in Latin American markets Argentina ($4.15 million), Colombia ($3.4 million), Peru ($3.09 million), Central America ($2.1 million) and Chile ($2.17 million). Finally, it had good debuts in Australia ($6.4 million) and Spain ($3.78 million), though in Spain it was probably negatively impacted by Spain's Euro Cup final on Sunday. Continental Drift's predecessor, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, is the highest-grossing animated movie ever overseas with $690.1 million, which is a total Continental Drift will hope to pass eventually.
