Indeed Katy has more singles that sold more than Tay's singles.
It's a shame people didn't perceive the quality of said singles to be enough to buy a whole album by her Unlike Taylor who everyone wants to hear what she has to say on her albums

The thread is asking who you prefer though, so by posting sales receipts you're basically just saying that you stan for success

omg
taylor has the album sales, katy will never top her
katy has the singles, taylor will never top her
case closed, those two facts are inarguable. not only that, they're also irrelevant, because the thread isn't asking which one is better or more successful; rather, it's saying "which do you PREFER?" and anyone throwing sales in the others' faces is stupid and shows they care more about success and less about the artists themselves.

Taylor is more acclaimed, more successful, sold more singles, plays more instruments, a better lyricist, has better melodies, has a much more diverse discography, etc. The only thing Katy has right now over Taylor is a higher grossing tour, but that too could be in jeopardy seeing how amazingly The 1989 World Tour is selling.
|
And I can also post lyrics that are just as good as Taylor's or actually whoop Taylor's ass
Taylor has better melodies? I disagree.
Diverse discography? You might want to rethink that. Even Katy herself has country pop demos lying around...

Sales talk is boring and unnecessary

Not her best
no you can't
Taylor's releases music is far more diverse in the fact it covers 2 genres alone. why you would even try to argue that is beyond me

Katy having a country demo = / = diversity
It wasn't even published lmao a mess.
The fact is Katy doesn't have a single song that covers the level of lyricism and detail of a song like "All Too Well". And she probably never will

Taylor has made country music, pop music, alternative music, folk music, stripped/acoustic music, dubstep-influenced music, pop/rock music. Katy has pop music, pop/rock music, stripped/acoustic, Christian music, ????????????????????? TD/the first half of Prism could be the same album and the rest is Christian/pop. Parts of OOTB are pop and parts are pop/rock and then she has has stripped versions of the OOTB songs (the genre I think suits her voice much more).
Taylor's more consistent with her lyrics. Aside from Welcome to New York and Shake It Off, the rest of 1989 is full of songs with great lyrics while Prism has been criticized for being nothing but cliches and being predictable lyrically and has some absolute travesties. Not to mention Taylor is known for writing songs 100% herself and does not enlist many, if any at all, cowriters. 1989 is full of co-writers that are just producers getting their credit.

Because "22" and "We Are Never..." consists of amazing lyricism

This is true, but what some people fail to understand is that these two things are connected. If you are selling a ton of albums, you are necessarily going to sell fewer singles. If Taylor's albums sales were the same as Katy's, her single sales would naturally be higher. That's common sense. While it seems like a lot of people are proud of Katy's single sales, I think it's much more impressive when you can sell a ton of albums, so I think Taylor's sales are more impressive. Higher album sales mean people want to hear your whole body of work, and not just the singles. That says something.
Long story short, really high single sales show two things:
- On the one hand, people love your singles!
- On the other hand, people aren't all that interested in hearing your whole album...

Better than basing a song around a metaphor (Dark Horse) then not even using that metaphor correctly

Hope you're not talking in the US only because Taylor has sold more digital singles than Katy here.

Was I mentioning those songs though?
The original statement is Katy doesn't have a song as lyrically detailed as "All Too Well". The fact you replied with a straw man fallacy tells me Katy truly doesn't have said a song like that.

Thought that metaphor wasn't that hard to understand, but I was wrong, I guess...

except, katy is only "known for not being a good songwriter and needing other people to write her songs" by the stupid haters who don't know any better than to say moronic things like that. when in reality, every collaborator/producer katy has ever worked with has said how in control she is over her music and career. so

Isn't it about him not expecting her to win him over/fall in love with her but she does? And a dark horse is somebody who seems unlikely to succeed in something... so it makes sense?

are people really trying to say Katy is multi-genre?
She might be but she is not known for that at all. She is a bubblegum pop act. If you prefer her over Taylor then that's totally fine but she is nothing more than just that. And a VERY average writer/vocalist.
