and Im back, with 20-11. keep in mind, these songs all are awesome and just missed the top ten.
#20:
Oasis - The Importance Of Being Idle
-Kicking off the top 20 is Oasis' second, and final, appearance on the countdown. This song kept switching with Fearless for the #20 spot, but Oasis won out. Importance was not released in the USA, and that is a shame, cause it could've had a chance to get Oasis some major rep. Let There Be Love is the newest single, but it failed to make the countdown for reasons unknown.
#19:
Hot Hot Heat - Goodnight, Goodnight
-I want a Tshirt of myself moving. This video was so creative, it was insane. Goodnight, Goodnight quickly became one of my favorite Hot Hot Heat songs the moment I heard it. It's so catchy, with the riff and the simple chorus. Elevator was easily one of the top albums of the year and deserved far more success than it recieved. I think You Owe Me An IOU will be next single, that might get on the radar a little bit.
#18:
Straylight Run - Existentialism On Prom Night
-Existentialism is defined as a philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one's acts. What that has to do with this song I have no idea. I didn't like Straylight Run very much till a couple months ago, and then I loved them, much like Taking Back Sunday last year.
#17:
Foo Fighters - Best Of You
-This is another one of those songs that will be on everybody's year end list. Rightly so, I should add. It's one of those universally loved songs, just like Since U Been Gone and Bat Country. Foo Fighters had quite an awesome year. They had 2 #1 singles on the Alternative charts and one of the years best albums (#8).
#16:
System Of A Down - B.Y.O.B.
-This and everybody song from here on out deserves to be in the top ten. It's a real shame that they aren't. But then again, there are 15 better songs from 2005, so maybe not such a shame. This is a RAHHHHHHH song if I ever saw one. Moving perfectly from crazy fast to catchy slow in the chorus. One of the best videos of the year as well.
#15:
Nine Inch Nails - Only
-The second single off With Teeth. After first listen this was my favorite song off the album, but their other song (which is still to come) passed it over the course of the year. That doesn't take anything away from this song though, it still maintains a ridiculous state of awesomeness. Amazing video as well, directed by David Fincher (Fight Club).
#14:
The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
-Cause everytime you close your eyes, LIES! LIES! I did not The Arcade Fire when I first heard Neighborhood #3, but it grew on me very fast. Then I heard this masterpiece of a song. Very close to making the top ten, but the songs above it could not be dropped. Arcade Fire very much ruled at Inland Invasion back in September. They should have got a Best New Artist nomination from the grammys. >:-o
#13:
Kaiser Cheifs - I Predict A Riot
-Another newbie band. They are one of the illustrious trio, whom the other two still have songs to come, and I shall point them out then. They first entered the scene in Q1 of 2005 and got big enough to play in Live 8 this year. I really liked the first video of this, but the new one isn't as good. The new one might've been good for another song of there's, but IPAR needs a far more crazy video to suit it's mood.
#12:
My Chemical Romance - The Ghost Of You
-It's not a secret that I love MCR, so it should not be a surprise to see this song so high. This video totally blew Green Day's war video out of the water. They were 3 for 3 with incredible videos off this album. They're coming out with a new album next year, so if I do a year end 2006 countdown, expect to see them very high up.
#11:
Green Day - Holiday
-So Green Day finally show up. The biggest artist of 2005 just misses the top ten with their third single off American Idiot. Last year they held this very same spot with the title track off the album. They also had a song in the top ten, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (#5). Can they repeat this year with another top ten song? You'll have to wait and find out. While you're waiting, go listen to Holiday :-).
and the top ten will shortly begin. Last year Beastie Boys took the #1 spot, they will have to release it this year as they released nothing in the United States. A couple songs are obvious in the top ten, but hopefully I deliver some surprises as well. Peace.
