Billboard likely reported shipments, since they don't handle WW sales. That number probably came from the label.

Using mediatraffic is only fair. It may be inaccurate, but it uses the same methodology for all artists, so it's hard to claim its not fair. The only other fair method would be to compare all the certified/announced sales in individual countries.

Gaga had a HUGE beginning - album-single-tour-wise, she was extraordinary.. However, her sales and image haven't been the same ever since she went a little bit off the liking of the GP with Alejandro, BTW, etc.. ARTPOP seems to be failing at getting the GP back. Nobody cares about art actually.

Katy, however, improves era by era, but has not been on the same level as Gaga was when she was on her peak. Chart-wise, Katy is above Gaga, and with the PRISM era, almost all of the odds are in favor of Katy.

It's just a matter of maintenance.. and it would seem Gaga is lagging behind.. but I wouldn't count her out just yet..

Nah, Gaga will continue to get headlines for her social work and all that as she gets older. If we were to compare the two's 2012 presence, Gaga's was bigger as she's still extending her brand, will always be touring and launching new social projects.

Katy, however, is absent from the scene when she can't lend her vocals to the latest Dr. Luke track.

Hmm it's hard because I don't see Katy lasting all that long in the scheme of things (perhaps another 10 years or so, give or take a few) and normally I'd say that Gaga would outlast that but as of late Gaga seems to only care about her Monsters so with that mentality I don't see her lasting as long as she potentially could either.
