She never once thought she was better than Clive, she said multiple times that she knew it wasn't going to sell what Breakaway sold…it was just a record she needed to release.

Where's the BS.? No matter how you spin it, Kelly made a claim about Clive due to his age. But he wasn't wrong about the album. I'm sure you'd be the first to dismiss Clive as being arrogant if he had judged Kelly on her age

Platinum during that time was considered a flop for a major artist especially compared to how her last album sold. Don't try to spin it. Nobody considers MD a success.

There is a way of knowing. Even with one big album, it's still a risk to do arenas. And Kelly tours constantly, even in between albums, so the level of demand won't be the same.
