There are people in the industry who just want to be "entertainers" with their quick, little singles, and then, there are those who want to be so much more. The former have a better chance to succeed with that mentality, but the very few from the latter category who actually do become much more than entertainers become legends. Just food for thought.

She is, though? Selling "more" albums than your contemporaries does not make you an album artist. One album =/= album artist. One tour =/= touring artist. Katy Perry has sold 13m albums worldwide. Do you not get how atrocious that number is for someone with some of the biggest hits the music business has ever seen?
Yes, Gaga has fallen. We know this. But what some of you don't seem to understand is that her decline is natural. When you debut with 16m albums sold, there is no place for you to go but down. She went from bigger than everyone to simply being just another popstar. Katy's current album, despite its massive hits, still hasn't sold that much more than any other popstar at the moment. 1m more than Miley and Gaga and a couple hundred thousand more than Beyonce. That doesn't mean anything for Katy. She still is no where near Miley, Gaga, and Beyonce's total album sales overall. What does that say about Katy? That she isn't that big after all when you look at the bigger picture.
Edit: That's what pop stans don't get with their short-sighted points of view. When people talk about Madonna, do they talk about her sales during her peak or do they talk about her overall sales? Overall sales. In twenty years, people will be talking about the current girls' overall sales and impact, not that year they had five #1 hits because no one will care.
