That's not what is being said. Most of you guys aren't even reading. He was saying that Harlem Shake achieved #1, here is the breakdown of its points. Its streaming was so much bigger than everyone else that it earned it. He said streaming only accounts for 20% of the hot 100 formula.
As time goes on I've come to accept their reasoning. I believed the most viewed meme noted people were asking for the full song. It is selling and being officially streamed adequately.
It's a bit weird to read the dismay here since everyone always used to say YT should be included. And how radio should be less influential in this time of impactful sales and streaming. Now you have a No. 1 there solely because of sales and streaming.

Why? What difference does it make if someone listens to a lyric video on an official VEVO as opposed to someone else's? It's the same damn thing.

Err, aside from the fact that parody videos are not the actual songs, because this is the internet - As in they will NEVER be able to properly identify ALL of the the songs and ALL the videos. That is the difference, and that will end up making the chart unfair at some point.

Yeah, so everyone knows the name of every song on airplay in the radio.

What I mean is that you think the audio of the parodies is not important while all of you selfrighteously claim airplay is important when you don't even know or like everything is on. Why should the songs you're listening on the radio matter if you don't know or like them all?
At least you clicked on the parody knowingly of the song you were gonna listen to.
@ the people defending it. You guys do realize the majority of people here wouldn't have an issue if they didn't include PARODIES, right? That means any viral video can get inside the top ten, or #1 on the charts with no airplay and little downloads .
Billboard is for /music/, not a viral video chart. It should be official videos ONLY, not parodies any and everyone can make in addition to that.
Billboard changes its chart rules every other month. They don't know whether they're coming or going and are inconsistent as hell.
The Hot 100 should go back to the formula it had pre-2007; based on primarily 2 things: radio play and single sales. Streaming (YouTube, Spotify, etc.) should be excluded entirely. On Demand music consumption on the Internet is so easy and so manipulative that it throws everything on course and becomes a joke. I don't remember there ever being this much confusion and scrutinization before they started factoring in all this extra bullsh!t.
Like I've said before, next Billboard will factor in things like Facebook likes and Twitter followers. There needs to be rules and sanctions.
