Normalization happens through visibility, not hiding, and that includes all people, not just celebrities, but public figures have the biggest impact. And Sam Smith has not become a LGBT spokesmodel. He's only been coerced into coming out because ATRL exposed his old Twitter account so he was left no choice. His PR had to take control of it. Before that he did what Jack is doing... be neutral and not say anything. Btw, people here weren't curious about Sam Smith because they lust over him.
FYI that unwritten rule was made up by people who want to stick certain body parts outside the closet, but don't want their faces out. It's your choice, but you can't expect to talk, question and be curious if you're putting part of yourself out there.

Well if he isn't gonna give a direct yes/no answer, there isn't much options left besides playing coy. He wasn't even being a douche about it. I don't doubt that there's an agenda at play; his decision not give a direct response was an absolute calculated move and I dont have a problem with that. If he feels. If he feels that's whats best for his career and/or personal life currently, then I support him. Nobody should be labelled a gay actor!! Are u kidding me with that
Do we go about calling people gay engineers, gay teachers, gay pilots ... is that your interpretation of normal?
But every gay person in the public eye is not obligated to divulge their sexual preferences because they happen to be gay and in the public eye if they're not comfortable sharing their bedroom kinks with the world. Gays having as much right to privacy as straights, now that's sounds like normalisation to me (whatever that really means). Sam should've never been put in that situation but i think you embellished a little there; Sam was never really in the closet; not discussing your sexuality is not synonymous with being a closet case. Sam was criticised on this forum when he declared he did not want to be a mouthpiece for the gay community. The sense of entitlement is amusing to say the least.
How do you mean putting yourself out there? Being a working actor or musician?
Of course I know people are gonna ask question, that's normal in the trajectory of every rising star. My point is some of the response in this thread seem like he owes us a definite answer. He doesn't!
