She's also the only new pop star aside from Gaga to put a tour on the top 50 highest-grossing tours of all time, so apparently some people think she's an entertaining performer. What's wrong with the VMA incident? Or the earth-shattering album releases? Or her sweeping the Album of the Year awards?

Nothing is wrong with that. We're all happy for her success and she certainly deserves it. However, she has done nothing to captivate the planet. She is local and no serious stan would try to deny that. This generation is a global one and it's extremely ignorant to thing her effortless slaying in one country is indicative of a widespread global phenomenon. She isn't Lady Gaga or Madonna. She doesn't have the power nor the cultural impact in many different fields.
To put this into perspective, Taylor Swift does an extremely limited number of things extremely well. That's all she ever needs to do, and that's all she ever does. She appeals to a certain age group (young) and for the most part, a certain sex (female). She is so very safe. Lady Gaga and Madonna are very different and much more provocative, which seems to catch the attention of the worldwide media and the international community as a whole. Lady Gaga is known as a keeper of so many titles, good and bad, that make you wonder what she exactly represents. She and Madonna try to encompass so many different forms of subjectivity within music and art that you really cannot deny their "definitive pop star status". There will always be a place for Taylor, but she will only ever lead the industry with sales (which is not a bad thing).

Both Beyonce and Gaga earned more. And Taylor doesn't have a "universally acclaimed" album.

I don't think you can call someone a definitive star until s/he has had his/her "flop" album/era. I use the word 'flop' loosely --to mean that the sales didn't match its predecessor's. Britney had it with 'Britney'; P!nk with 'Try This', Christina with 'Bionic'; Kelly C with 'My December'; Madonna with 'American Life'.
They all came back stronger than ever. Taylor is riding high right now, but does she have the ability to bounce back should her next album fail? Note also these superstars 'failed' when they switched to a non mainstream sound/changed their musical formulas and lost a multitude of their loyal fans. Can Taylor do the same?

she doesnt flop because shes consistent, and those albums werent flops because of the changed sounds, they flopped because they were terrible albums. Flopping has nothing to do with being a definitive star cause many stars like Shania never flopped.
I think you are mistaking her going through adversity, to her releasing a flop album, kindoff like what happened with Kanye between 808 and MBDTF.

Red wasn't supposed to have the Max Martin songs, but Scott (label president) was the one that suggested it.
Imagine how good the album would've been.

I live outside America, so I'm going to go with a 'no'.

Maybe in US but she is not that in my country yet. I think she will last for a long time however.

I think they had her do the Max Martin songs because all of the other songs on Red are pretty un-radio friendly, especially to pop.
Without the MM songs, Red & maybe Starlight (Starlight gives me Sparks Fly chart performance tbh) have pop potential. Country only has a few too : I Almost Do, Begin Again, Stay Stay Stay, Starlight (???), but none are smashes besides Red. The MM songs are giving her smash after smash this era.

Yes yes. Opening up with 1 million with two albums is really huge!
She is definatly the new Britney of this generation.
Of course the other girls have had success but Taylor is simply huge. Atrl cant see it because they are stuck stanning for past "it" girls.

Yeah I know.
But she obviously doesn't care about smashes since she didn't change-up her game, she just wants to put out good music.
I mean I do enjoy all of the songs, even the MM ones. But compared to other songs on the album they don't even sound like ''music''.
It shows that Taylor's plan for the album was nothing like how it turned out, I hope Scott doesn't pressure her in the near future.

The voice of our generation.
But seriously i`d rather her become definitive artist of our time rather than definitive popstar. Judging by the songs like "Safe and Sound", "All Too Well" etc. i really think she has an album in her that will stand the test of time. But for this to come true she has to live and experience a lot, be less guarded, go soul-searching, start a family etc. In 15-20 years maybe.
I really can`t see her becoming huge generation defining pop-star anyway. Her influences and interests in music are too all over the place.

That's just your opinion
A lot of albums flopped for a lot of different reasons. That doesn't mean the music itself was bad. Erotica by Madonna flopped yet it's an amazing pop album. And there's a lot more examples.
