Capitol are in a really tough position here.

If they start to focus on "Dark Horse" now, it will probably take off even more so than it already has and become a surefire smash hit, leaving "Unconditionally" to flop down the charts, much to Katy's personal dismay.

Whereas if they keep pushing "Unconditionally", which Katy obviously wants since she likes the song so much, they run the risk of letting "Dark Horse" get away, and by the time they actually do release it as a single, people are over it and it performs dismally.

I actually didn't care for either snippet at the time and voted WoA. I thought they were just using two weak tracks as promos; then I heard Dark Horse in full and it was a bop and WoA remained a throwaway.
