Female artists have used sexual imagery before Madonna. Females period have been flaunted sexually in film and music since the beginning of time. Madonna did not invent that, she pushed the boundaries of what is comfortable for how a woman is supposed to present herself sexually to society via becoming the dominant S&M vulgar vixen as opposed to just a submissive, coy airhead blonde.
Oh, & Beyoncé owes Madonna nearly nothing.

I've seen her live in 08 and was slayed. this woman is a force of nature. at 60 she will still **** all over your faves. people will pay anything to see her live. with no promotion she can still put an album that sells 4 million copies worldwide. woithout moving a single finger. she writes, produces, and has a vision.

It also does not seem you have actually listened to her whole discography either, in which case your opinion has some rather shaky ground. And if you base this off her "singing voice", then you have a warped definition of what constitutes a musician.

Gaga is also overrated... this I know.

She is not overrated, vocally she is not the best, but she has done so much for pop music and womens in pop music, she managed to have a 30 yrs old career and have longevity, she is the ultimate pop star and for some reason she is and always will be THE QUEEN OF POP, her and Michael Jackson are the creators and precursors of modern pop just that simple!

I think many of you are too ignorant to her music and overall career to seriously answer this question.

Of course people here will call her overrated when they've listened to 5% of her discography, seen 2% of her music videos, and understand 0.1% of what she has done. While at the same time praising forced efforts of today.

I think most people here have seen Madonna's videos and heard her songs. We're talking about a popstar, not understanding the inner workings of Carl Jung's mind.

True. The thing with Madonna is that she was considered a modern day feminist at the time. She played around a lot with the duality of women and she's very masculine in a sense so I think that's why she gets so much praise for her sexual imagery. She was unashamed of her sexuality. She sort of started or at least contributed greatly to the whole sex is power thing.

Her sex imagery is what ruined her in America. She was never able to return to her former glory after that. I think people hold it against her even when new girls can get away with it.

To be perfectly honest, Madonna and Micheal Jackson are overrated to the high heavens. Personally I don't think their music is as progressive as people make it out to be.

I don't know.
I don't see her as an untouchable, legendary pop colossus that shouldn't be criticized, though. She's a bitch, she's never been a great singer, and personally, I don't feel like I have any reason to believe she's particularly talented musically. She's willing to do what it takes and eats people alive in the pop industry because of it. I don't feel like I, as a pop fan, owe anything substantial to her. I realize what she did for the industry and that's great, but I don't think every subsequent pop star who attains success should be bashed the instant they start impinging upon Madonna's sacred turf. There will always be new girls, and I get tired of everyone freaking out when the "Queen of Pop" title starts floating around. It's just a stupid ****ing made up title anyway, and Madonna is not the be-all, end-all in my eyes.
