and dead @ "very far from that now." Viola just got nominated for her role as a maid in the 60s. Sit.

Yeah, I'm sure that the Hollywood Foreign Press looked at her and thought "She was only good because she was a maid in the 60s".
They saw an awesome performance that happened to be in the 60s.
Did you know she's won before for playing the mother of a sexually abused boy? That sure sounds like a black stereotype to me

Lol i LOVE when people point out the one token black character in each series and use it as a defense "see, there's black people!"

This is exactly my point. I would love to see a black actor / actress (or any other race) to star in a Popular movie as a main character, such as Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings and such.

You did HENCE you posting kids in a movie that no one even have seen (because they are black) to try to prove your point. Just because they walk down the hallway in Hogwarts doesn't justify that black people don't get major lead roles in movies, sitcoms, etc etc. So have a _/.

When did I say I was shocked that the majority of the HP cast is white?
Ahmed tried using those extras as "proof" that Blacks are present in the media, but none of them are iconic or popular.

I don't think that's a good enough excuse. I think it has a lot to do with the fear that a black person leading a film won't sell. The people who write these movies 9 times outta 10 write the parts with Caucasian actors in mind.
Look at shows like The Real World. They barely cast a black person. Or primetime shows on CBS, ABC, etc. I think it's a little weird. But it's "the norm" now.

I don't disagree, although Asians are probably the most underrepresented minority in terms of media visibility across music, film, and TV in the US.

Exactly.
21 was based on a true story about 6-7 asian students that used counting cards to win big at Las Vegas casinos.
Wow. They sure all look asian

Shows like Revenge where they do have a black character.. she's a slave for a white person. Just saying. But I do agree with your whole post.

"White" films have creativity, are imaginative, they're "different", if you will. Black films tend to follow the themes that Blacks complain about when being type casted in "White" films.
Reality of the situation, Blacks probably wouldn't be supportive of a Harry Potter type film. Blacks seem to only like films where it's about "life in the hood" - Friday, Boyz In The Hood, Crooklyn, etc. This is why I don't understand why Tyler Perry gets so much flack from other Black film makers, who portrays his characters as "uppity" Blacks.
|
So much ignorance in one post. I guess we only like music by black artists as well. That can't be true tho, since we're here.
I love how you lump us all together, tho.

I just think it shouldn't play that much when casting actors. So what if one of their close friends was black or one of the main teachers? It wouldn't have changed the story much right?
I am sure there have been cases when the girl is described as a blond with blue eyes in a book and they cast a brunette with blue eyes. The same thing should apply for the race.

But why would either of those movies star black actors when the original characters were white due to the authors both living in an near all-White environment? Those are bad examples to get your point across and neither indicate racism in Hollywood.

TV is a very different environment than movies. TV stations have trouble believing that people can stay attached to a minority character for more than 3-4 episodes.
In their eyes, it's easy to sympathize with a black character for 2 hours in a movie, but for 10 months in a TV series, it becomes an ordeal.
**** TV.

I hope you don't think that was actually on purpose. Maybe the people who survived had a purpose.

I love Viola to death but I don't see her career really taking off. I mean, after her performance in Doubt, she was in a Tyler Perry film. She even said after getting nominated, she thought things would change but they didn't. And god knows Octavia Spencer will probably never see the set of another feature film.

That is unacceptable as well. But that doesn't change the issue with black people.
