Michael had a 5 year huge peak (1983-1988). Britney had the same with a 5 year huge peak (1999-2004). Their peaks were huge but much more short-lived than most of their peers. Why? I think their primes are so similar is that they didnt just have the music & iconic performances but they also had the media/tabloid blitz. The media definitely built them up to bring them down with bad press as crazy/laughing stocks. Michael's media downturn started after skin lightening/Bad era and Brit's was after ITZ/dating Kevin. I think Whitney is another artist with not a long peak but a big blockbuster 5-year one. She also had bad press destroy her prime.

I still disagree though. MJ and Whitney were very successful in their solo careers for eras. Also MJs solo career started back in like 1972. Anyways...
MJ was successful in album sales, touring, etc, from Off The Wall through HIStory. His albums are some of the highest selling and his Dangerous and HIStory tours are some of the highest attended tours in touring history.
Whitney was successful from her debut in '85 through the late 90's. She had some of the highest selling albums, charts runs etc, during that time also.
Im failing to understand your logic because Whitney and MJ were more successful much longer than Britney was. Also because every artist has their 'peak'. You can take any artist career any apply the logic that you are trying to apply to theirs. Also MJ and Whitney were HUGE before their peak eras and remained HUGE after. Some of the main reasons things slowed them down was
1)They were older. In the late 90's MJ turned 40 and Whitney was in her late 30s. Pop stars are generally young. N Britney just made 30. When they were 30 they were in their primes
2)They stopped working as much also. Much of it due to personal issues from being in the biz for so long.
