Every major singer has some talent. The one's who can't dance or play an instrument like Adele and Lorde, make up for totally with their song writing and voice. Rihanna can't do any of these except hold a weak note.

Excel might be a bit off a bit of an over exaggeration but it doesn't negate the fact that they have some say in the creative process of their music.
