Jeibert's Best of 2009 | Top ALBUMS | Close Calls (1-10)
By the way, some of you may be familiar with the layout that I'm going to use. This is the result of following Athen's amazing tutorials just days before, that I have found easy to make. Hence, my first banner in using Photoshop This layout is also similar to Justice's
Before I start my list of this year's top 30 albums, First, I present to you those which were in the close calls list. This list contains the albums I love listening to , but there are 30 which I loved the most of this year! So enjoy and keep commenting, they are greatly appreciated!
Here's part 1:
| AMERIE - "In Love & War"
This year, Amerie once again delivered another underrated masterpiece with In Love & War. This
album has brought her trademark voice into next level energy. Opening with the "horn" sounds of
""Tell Me You Love Me" , hotness is delivered through "Heard 'Em All", "Dangerous" & "Higher" .
Beginning from "Why R U", we can hear a more serious Amerie as we hear a fight in "More Than
Love". The intimate moments of the album can be felt up to "Dear John". The album closes with
a fire remix of "Heard 'Em All" which features Lil Wayne.
Favorite Tracks: Heard 'Em All, Why R U, Swagback, The Flowers, Dear John |
| ASHLEY TISDALE - "Guilty Pleasure"
Follow up to her debut "Headstrong" is "Guilty Pleasure", which is a change of direction for Ashley.
The album is pop-rock oriented and reminds me of Kelly Clarkson's that contains ballads. My favorite
track is "Crank It Up" which is a very good song for the dancefloor . Award-winning songwriter Diane
Warren wrote "Delete You". It is a fun record to listen to, but there are personal moments as well,
especially in "What If". "Acting Out", "Masquerade" & "Erase and Rewind" are such songs that you can
rock onto. If you like pop-rock, then you'll definitely love it!
Favorite Tracks: Crank It Up, It's Alright, It's OK, Erase and Rewind, What If, Switch |
| BACKSTREET BOYS - "This Is Us"
Being in the business over a decade is quite a feat, especially for Backstreet Boys. This year, they
brought a solid record, their 7th album "This Is Us". Quite surprising is, I love their first single, "Straight
Through My Heart" which I've seen them doing choreography in the video for years. The second
single "Bigger" is a relaxing song to listen to, plus with the production prowess of Max Martin, adds
a little unique feel to it. "PDA" and the title track is where the album hypes up a little. Not their best,
but congratulations for them having another good album.
Favorite Tracks: Straight Through My Heart, Bigger, PDA, Masquerade", This Is Us |
| BOYS LIKE GIRLS - "Love Drunk"
They're back in 2009 with "Love Drunk", after their debut on 2006. The lead single is one of the
band's catchiest song to date and immediately I loved it with an entertaining video. But amidst
the rock tracks, the ballad tracks are the highlights for me, and that's what I like from Boys Like
Girls the most. With this album, they collaborated with Taylor Swift, which is one of the best
on the album, while "Heart Heart Heartbreak" & "She's Got a Boyfriend Now" are trademarks.
Hopefully, on the next they'll incorporate more of their "back to basic" origin.
Favorite Tracks: Two is Better than One, Love Drunk, Heart Heart Heartbreak, Go, Contagious |
| CASCADA - "Evacuate the Dancefloor"
German dance act Cascada knows whats up when it comes to dance music! With elements of electro
pop in the album, it'll be hard for anyone to "evacuate". The lead single/title track is a la Just
Dance, of UK with recycled beats going through "Hold On", to "Fever". The ballad "Hold Your Hands
Up" is my personal favorite, where lead singer Natalie's voice puts me sometimes into tears. Then
you're ready to dance again to the captivating "Dangerous" and ends up in the nostalgic "Draw
the Line". The album is on par or sometimes a little better than their previous releases.
Favorite Tracks: "Hold Your Hands Up, Evacuate the Dancefloor, Dangerous, Fever, Hold On |
| COBRA STARSHIP - "Hot Mess"
Thanks to "Good Girls Go Bad"! with that song made me like this record. Together with the sexy
Leighton Meester on that track, it's one of the year's unexpected collaborations. If you like parties,
then you should play this up. What's more unique are "Fall Out Boy"-like titles, where Pete Wentz
is also referenced. Though this album hasnt fully grown on me, it made me tune into Cobra Starship's
music. Before this, I don't know even any info about them. Surely, they're the ones I'm looking forward
for some future releases.
Favorite Tracks: Nice Guys Finish Last, Good Girls Go Bad", Pete Wentz Is the Only Reason ... |
| DAVID GUETTA - "One Love"
David is one of the top producers this year & "One Love" shows some of his creative ability.
Starting off with "When Love Takes Over", which features Kelly Rowland in soaring vocals,
the song is definitely in a club's playlist. "Sexy Chick" with Akon is another brilliant song, with
beats that makes you wanna dance along and party. Other than that, I love other featured guests
notably Kid Cudi, Estelle, & Wynter Gordon. This is Guetta's most commercial album to date,
and let's expect that he'll be making more hits either by him or by our favorite artist near in the future.
Favorite Tracks: When Love Takes Over, Sexy Chick, Choose, Memories, Gettin' Over |
| FLO RIDA - "R.O.O.T.S."
With "Mail on Sunday" & "Low" last year, Flo Rida is back this year with "R.O.O.T.S" & "Right Round".
The song is q monstrous digital seller and set records for Flo Rida. The album also introduced newhit
makers Ke$ha, and Wynter which is on "Sugar". Nelly Furtado, Akon, and Ne-Yo are my favorite guests
as they add their magic on the catchy rap songs. Although Flo Rida, may not be a good album seller,
he always make sure that his singles always do well. Expect the expected, if he has a new single,
I'm sure it'll do very good in iTunes!
Favorite Tracks: Sugar, Right Round, Be On You, Jump, Available |
| FLYLEAF - "Memento Mori"
One of most anticipated albums this year. Lacey Moseley and the band didn't disappoint! I've
noticed there's no screaming at any song at all! Lacey has laid in her most beautiful vocals
ever! Opening with the haunting & persuading"Beautiful Bride" to the fiery "Again", the
album is pretty emotional and reality-centered. And with the same sound from their previous
album, all the way to "Arise" it talks about life and its existence, hence, Memento Mori "remember
you will die"
Favorite Tracks: Beautiful Bride, Again, Tiny Heart, Set Apart This Dream, Treasure, Arise |
| THE FRAY - "The Fray"
The Fray's "The Fray" is one of the earliest albums that I love this year. The record keeps you
at constant emotion as well as in easy listening genre. "You Found Me" is a song where you can
find solace while "Never Say Never" is a tear-jerker. Both, are the best ones on the album. Some
songs are maybe forgettable, but overall the album is perfect for self reflecting and it contains
one of the most beautiful lyrics like most Fray songs are. A very good recommendation for inspiration
as well as source of strength.
Favorite Tracks: Never Say Never, You Found Me, Syndicate, Absolute, Say When |
Part Two will be up in the next few hours
