I think French is a great language to have as your background b/c it teaches you to rely on instinct instead of trying to learn rules. Like how a table is feminine and the sky is masculine. There's no rule or reason behind it. It just is. It teaches you to rely on instinct when learning other languages as well.

I disagree, romance languages are very heavy on grammar and rules as opposed to English, which is gender-neutral and has practically no grammar of which to speak.

My first language is Italian, or rather, an Italian dialect. The first day of school was interesting.
