Anyway, only an idiot has to ask this question + an idiot would try to downplay either side. Both Lorde and Lana came out of the gate with praise ("Video Games", "Royals"). Where it went wrong for Lana was SNL, considering "Born to Die", "Off to the Races" and other songs/videos prior to the release of her album received acclaim. But the second she ****ed up SNL the media turned against her. Lorde hasn't had a ****-up moment, and so therefore media/blogs, etc. continuing to ride the hype - which they would've continued to do with Lana.

So in my opinion, it's really a misconception. A lot of the critics that dragged Lana post-SNL have gone hush-mouth and/or went back to praising her with "Ride", "Young and Beautiful", etc. Ya know, after the SNL dust settled. Bar a few publications that pin them against each other and give Lorde the higher-up, I'd say Lana isn't severely less respected like some are trying to imply.

The only period I smell is coming from this post.

iirc a lot of the hate for Lana came from the way she was initially marketed as an indie act. Many hipster blogs began "exposing" her early on, calling her out on her surgeries and being a rich daddy's girl etc. Authenticity is a big deal to indie fans and many felt that she was too much style and not enough substance.

Some of these sis's are protecting Lorde over Lana, but when Lorde goes after their faves, all the hell is loose.

With that said, I think it's fair to say as some of these sistrens have already said, that they are both respected, as far as success goes well, Lana is in a higher level over Lorde, it's the truth, just because Lana haven't got any solo hits doesn't mean Lorde is far more succesful than Lana, BTD and Paradise tour receipts still puts Lana higher than Lorde successfully wise, because both of those points are more important than a hit, IMO.

So I think we should stop comparing these two when they are not even on the same level, maybe in the future, sure, but not right now.

Not really. I don't generally care about Lana vs. Lorde stupidity enough to come into threads specifically with the intention of dragging her. In fact, I'm a big Lana fan and have been since Video Games got big.

Exactly this. If they marketed her like Lady Gaga (w/ Just Dance) I think she'd be more successful. She wouldn't be the "indie act" she wanted, but at least she'd have a larger fanbase.

Just see how successful Summertime Sadness remix was.
