This is totally hypocritical because during Keeps Getting Better era, Christina's image was completely precalculated and fake Unlike her, GaGa BEGAN her career with her image unlike Christina who has been making drastic 360s for all of her different eras.
|
Its called evolving as an artist, artistic growth. What is wrong with that? How do you think Madonna lasted for so long? Because of her talent?? Lol doubt it.
Quote:
And Christina's phony KGB stage image was how she is in real life? Contradiction to everything you're saying.
|
Why do you even bring it up? That image was for one performance, it was so brief that I wouldnt even call it her "image". Yet you cant seem to take it out of yo head.

I agree that Back to Basics wasnt a flop in no way shape or form, or on the same level as those other albums but it was still sort of a weak era for her impact wise and not the kind of era that can would really sustain fan interest for a long time...
|
Even though B2B didnt make a huge impact, that doesnt mean her career is over, and that is what the author of this article is saying. In fact, every one of her album releases were highly anticipated. Despite of her long breaks, she still manages to keep people intersted in her work.

She IS trying to be Madonna, she would probably never admit it but her career is like a reflection of Madonna's early career (other than the fact that Christina is making her fourth album in 12 years as opposed to Madonna who made four in six years). It doesn't work nearly as well for her though because you can tell that Christina is trying harder.

Oooh, things like this make me mad. Why do you think Madonna has lasted so long, and is still popular today? Do you think it's marketing? Her savvy? What exactly do you call it when somebody is good at business and cultivating their image--is it... oh, the "t" word again. It's TALENT! Maybe you didn't understand this but "talent" is not limited to vocal ability. Because that's just called vocal ability.

I agree that people are interested but if you really think that is what the article is saying you should probably read it again.

Complain? No. Lose interest? Yes.
Reason why Britney is always a few steps ahead of Christina with the concepts and image. Maybe because Britney has a better team that preps her. *shrugs*

It's the talent of marketing that made Madonna so successful.

Yes but Madonna marketed HERSELF. She was in control--she certainly had her moments of copying past iconic figures (Marylin Monroe for sure), but she always had excellent music to back up her antics, and most of the time her antics worked. Whenever she made a misstep, it may have looked like her career was over for a short while, but soon she capitalized it and turned it into an asset.

You are talking as if vocal ability is some little skill anybody can acquire. True talent comes from god(something that Christina was lucky enough to be born with). And seeing as how Madonna is a singer first, business woman second, I would say shes lacking. Yes, shes business savy(despite of her few poor business decisions), however, anybody can gain business experience or learn it. Madonna is a smart woman, im not arguing that. Her entire career is based on controversy though, just like Britney's.

That's why I said "It's the talent of marketing that made Madonna so successful"

And Madonna was born with a brain.

What, necessarily, leads you to believe this? Did you not notice that she let her album flounder after "Give it 2 Me" while continuing to tour, eventually pulling in half a billion dollars? If that's not putting business before "singing," then what is? And who says that vocal talent needs to be the #1 priority for any female singer? Clearly, Madonna being the most successful female artist of all time lends that a bit of irony.

Christina's moments of controversy have been just as well-publicized as Madonna's and Britney's and you know as well as I do that she does those things on purpose, just like Madonna did (and just like GaGa is doing). It's funny how Christina fans hate Madonna and her fans, and GaGa and her fans, because the three of them are strikingly similar if you look past the vocal differences. Britney is less manipulative, most of her controversy comes from personal troubles.

Nobody is saying that she wasnt. As I said before, shes smart but anybody can learn tricks of the business. And Come on, do you really believe that she marketed herself entirely? You really believe that she didnt have an entire team of marketers, image consultants etc helping her plan her next move??

And as a singer, you are expected to have some vocal ability, Madonna has none . Shes lucky she was the first female to pull all the stunts that she pulled back in the 80s. If she came out now, she wouldnt make it. In fact, thats where most of her success comes from. She was the first at everything, and I believe she played a big role in sexual revolution. Though she is an icon, it is only because she broke down the boundaries and used shock value to gain attention of the public. I bet you she follows "Any publicity is good publicity" rule.

And what exactly are the moments of controversy that Christina had, except maybe few during her "Dirrrty" era? The ones I can think of are her Dirty Video, her barely-there VMA outfit and maybe Lady Mamalade video. The difference is that her career is not BASED on controversy like Madonna's and Britney's and Gaga's, its more based on her god given talent.

On the contrary. Controversy held a prominent position in solidifying Christina's career. At one point, Christina was known as the most provocative entertainer (singer) ever.

yes, but with that controversy came quality material, quality work., so it pretty much balanced everything out during that era. She knew when it was too much and she knew how to stop. She was much criticized during her dirty era for her outfits, her antics, but she also managed to deliver one of the best pop albums in the last 20 years. Cant say the same for her peers, who, during their 10 year careers, have yet to step out of their comfort zones. Lady gaga does have quality material, but we shall see where shes going to be ten years from now. RedOne will get old real fast, just like Timbaland and Scott Stortch did.

Of COURSE she did but everything major was from her head. And if what you're saying about "learning tricks of the business" is true, hundreds of people would not be flopping right now because they could market themselves as well as she can.

Well, no. Obviously not. She is an exception.

Wrong.

"If" this, "if" that, the fact remains that Madonna is the most successful female artist in history and your favorite artist would not have a musical career without her. Vocals or no vocals, everything Christina does is something Madonna already did.

I'd love for you to come up with one person considered an "icon" who didn't break barriers, make people think or do anything new and different at all.
