You're right, but it sure adds to it. You can't dismiss "Hung Up" as some kind of insignificant moment of Madonna's career. I think I was over-eager and I agree that it's not anthemic, but it's iconic in the gay community. The video with the leotard, the way it took dance music to the mainstream, the self-empowerment lyrics... It all screams gay.
