Why would you be uncomfortable, though? If you make it clear that you're straight, that person isn't going to pursue you.... so what's there to be paranoid about?

It's not stupidity. What he said is correct. Just because you tell someone you're off limits doesn't mean they automatically find you unattractive. It might stop them from making moves, but they're still gonna find him attractive.
