Too bad this isn't one of those times

For better or worse, Madonna has taken everything that's going well in the industry right now--Nicki Minaj, pink dubstep, easy-listening pop, LMFAO, Glee, hipster--and inserted herself into it with only a thin layer of plastic. She adapted herself and begged the world to listen, while Gaga released something ridiculously out-of-place and bombast and commanded the world's attention.

i hope you're not talking about born this way [the song]?

Madonna's popularity was always built on the fact that she stayed ahead of the pack, exploiting a subcultural zeitgeist in a series of clever reinventions.
After her lamentable work with Timberland, Hard Candy, and now this song, it feels like is just playing catch-up.

Exactly
Her idea of a mainstream song is something like she did from the 80s but with a couple of current singers.

If the MDNA cover wasn't so amazing, I would no longer be here for this era. But since it is, I have no doubts the album will reflect it. She may have released a basic song, but the album cover is anything but. Madonna is still there.

Let's be a bit honest here
If she did another deep odd type of song and video, are people not gonna say:
Lady Gaga
?
She's playing it safe for now. Which I think is smart. And let's not kid ourselves thinking that she could get away with a Ray of Light, Like a Prayer or Vogue in these times.

Exactly.
Quite alarmingly bigot times with very bigot views now, more so than back when Like A Prayer pissed off some obviously narrow minded religious groups and critics alike.
Even more alarming is teenagers having such bigot views on music artists and life in general.

Even the ones you pulled up weren't very positive. The first, by MTV, was a play-by-play of the video devoid of any real criticism.

I'm starting to see a pattern here.
All of you are here fo the Queen, Aren't you?

How the general public welcome the song / video and pre-ordered her album say otherwise. The bad reviews only matter for them haters anyway. We shall see when the final numbers are out.

It seems like we're in kindergarden and you've learned a new word because most of you are overusing "Reductive", anyway Madonna has nothing left to prove, she's just making a fun album and the critics may say **** about GMAYL , yet it will remind unbothered topping the charts WW. You ppl put way to many attention to the critics.

The critics are too harsh. It's a good pop song.

If Lady Gaga did this kind of video people would be dragging her across the floor. In fact, if any other pop start did this video y'all would be giving her all kinds of hell. But since it's Madonna, it's ok? I don't agree.
She should be releasing **** BETTER than all the other pop stars because that's what she's capable of.
Madonna of all artists should be the one who NEVER plays it safe.

I really don't think GMAYL was meant to be anything other than a fun first single. O_O
Then again, she pulled in MIA and Minaj, so that kind of shows she wanted to appeal to people.
IDK, I like the song and video, so whatevs.

I mean, if Madonna, Interscope, LiveNation and I are satisfied with the final product, it really doesn't phase us
What others have to say about the song.

Seriously, this song is actually catchy and I love it. Those stans can run all around town with these reviews, but at the end of the day MDNA is topping 43 charts and Madonna is makin bank.

Your shtick is shtale.

It wasn't what I was expecting, but it didn't stop me from preordering the album. She should be a little more graceful this era though, especially in interviews, until she produces something worthwhile - otherwise she just looks like a bitter has-been.
