Every Rational and Irrational Reason to Love Lorde's Mockingjay Soundtrack
JENNIFER LAWRENCE! KATNISS EVERDEEN! LORDE! POP CULTURE! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
After announcing her involvement in the curating The Hunger Games: Mockingjay soundtrack back in July, the world sat back and waited for the right time to freak out. That time is now. In addition to bringing cinema's biggest pop culture icon and music's biggest pop culture icon together for at least 120 minutes of Panem ass-kicking, there a number of reasons that this album is far greater than the sum of its parts:
1. Hunger Games-themed club nights just got that much easier.
2. The Chemical Brothers'
new song is their first in six years. This is a big deal for anyone over the age of 25, which is luckily a lot of people
3. Lorde is the world's collective Prim, but
unlike Prim she will not die inexplicably in the last 25 pages.
.
4. The first Hunger Games soundtrack won a Grammy and topped the Billboard 200. This one will be even bigger, because reasons.
5. This is the perfect opportunity to teach the world that there are Tove Lo songs that aren't the Hippie Sabotage remix of "Stay High"
6. Tinashé and Raury's tracks will undoubtedly spawn a thousand remixes.
7. Track 5 has yet to be announced and therefore could still be any collaboration you could possibly imagine. Nicolass Jaar ft. James Blake? Sure. Flume vs Burial? The sky is the limit. Until we know what track 5 will be for sure, it represents the hopes and dreams of music lovers from District 3 to District 13.
8. This soundtrack's success will hopefully pave the way for more pop culture ultra-collabs. If one of the new Harry Potter spinoffs has a soundtrack curated by Diplo, we will have this album to thank.
9. 15-year old girls will hear Kanye West for the first time. This is a good thing.
10. Close your eyes and listen to
”Yellow Flicker Beat”. Do you see what we see? That's right, President Snow in a rose garden, followed by montage where Jennifer Lawrence shoots between five and nine arrows.
11. The artist roster is Illuminati-free. This is a very good thing.
12. No dubstep.
