Icon: A person or thing that is the best example of a certain profession or some doing.

Iconic: Relating to, or having the characteristics of, an icon.

So I don't think iconic means you have to be innovative or original. I think Rihanna is one of the best examples of the pop star profession. That makes her iconic.

? Rihanna is the biggest selling artist of the Digital era. Shes the artist to achieve the most top 10's faster then any artist in history. She had the biggest songs of 2007 and 2010.

To maintain relevance as a major hit artist for 6 years is iconic. The last person doing this was Madonna, and even that shes beating her out in time
