This. But I'm sure this post will go unquoted so as to "prove their point"
Again though, maybe it's just because I don't like maaaaany pop artists, but how can you like an "artist" who you think would intentionally release bad lyrics just because pop is supposed to be fun? Mess, I guess that doesn't happen in the alternative genre

The names of some of those songs are common cliches themselves

Opinions, I suppose, but I find them all corny or cliché. She uses so many tired metaphors/similes, it's not cute imo
It Takes Two and Choose Your Battles... the titles themselves are well-worn phrases

Every artist has song titles named after common phrases and expressions. Since the thread is about Taylor, "I Knew You Were Trouble", "Forever & Always", "If This Was a Movie" and "Safe and Sound" are examples. That doesn't make them clichés.

I was not saying that you're making baseless claims. In fact, nobody is. They were just saying we don't know how much of her music she actually wrote. Which we don't. You don't. I don't. She also didn't write all her music on her own. How much of each song did she write? Which words came from her? Let's answer that. We do not know for sure how much she has written. That is true. We do not need proof to know how much we do not know. That would be what we call a logical fallacy.

Katy's best written song is Thinking of You
Taylor's is (arguably) All Too Well
Its all based on opinion but
"Maybe we got lost in translation
Maybe I asked for too much
But maybe this thing was a masterpiece
Till you tore it all up
Running scared I was there
I remember it all too well
Hey you call me up again
Just to break me like a promise
So Casually cruel in the name of being honest
I'm a crumbled up piece of paper lying here
because I remember it all, all, all too well
TIme won't fly
Its like I'm paralyzed by it
I'd like to be my old self again
But I'm still trying to find it
After plaid shirt days and nights when you made me your own
Now you mail back my things and I walk home alone
But you keep my old scarf from that very first week
Cuz it reminds you of innocence and it smells like me
You can't get rid of it
Cuz you remember it all too well"
"You're the best
And yes I do regret
How I could let myself
Let you go
Now, now the lesson's learned
I touched it I was burned
Oh I think you should know
'Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you
Thinking of you
What you would do if
You were the one
Who was spending the night
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Oh won't you walk through
And bust in the door
And take me away
Oh no more mistakes
'Cause in your eyes I'd like to stay"
Both are good but...

He must be telling the truth then.
But if we're gonna rely on YT interviews, aren't there many in which Bonnie McKee implies Katy doesn't write anything by saying she works for her instead of with her, or gives songs to her? I don't know....

Taylor remains an acclaimed, AOTY Grammy winner so whatever. The world agrees she's more talented than Katy and a more gifted songwriter 🎉

I didn't say she wasn't. I already said she's a better songwriter than Katy, she's better than almost anyone around. I'm just saying that because a song title is named after an expression that doesn't make it a cliché.

And my point is that you could say the same about ANY songwriter that doesn't write 100% by themselves. Why is Katy any different?

A) I already said "most of my sig"
B) lana is not pop, and she's released very few questionable lyrics--muh fewer than gags and Katy
C) p!nk works it, she knows what she's doing. Gaga...? P!nk is one of the most respected pop stars out there.

Taylor was able to make an album solelly written by her get a 77 MetaScore on Metacritic.
She was able to make a radio friendly album full of hits reach again a 77 MetaScore.
She writes everything. The lyrics and the melodies.
Katy clearly doesn't write melodies. I believe it was said in a interview that she tweaks the melodies from the material that is handled for her by her producers. And then she writes some of her lyrics. Still, she relies on the help of other songwriters - like Bonnie McKee. Yet, she was never able to make a good record. She never had one song praised or gotten significant acclaim like Taylor has. Her highest ranking album on MetaCritic has a Metascore of 61.
I think it's pretty clear who is the better songwriter.
Taylor has been a songwriter since she was 10 years old. I think at this point, in the pop scene, the only songwriters as talented as her are Adele and Lorde. These two lack one talent that Taylor has, though: the skill of writing melodies.
|
When has something like this ever been said? Never.
lol Sandy Wilhem (one of the co-producers of Firework) said Katy came in and wrote the main melody. You tried tho.

The countless interviews with people that have worked with her > a few interviews reading too far into Bonnie's (probably understandably bitter over Katy's success that she's not also received) words.

Lmfao comparing Greg's (a respected musician) word to Bonnie's (a grown clown woman trapped in a confused teenage girl's body).

But if Katy relies so much on that clown woman... what does it say about Katy - and about Katy's songwriting, which is clearly what we are discussing in this thread?
